Most of the students in school got their parents, while he…well, he’s alone. But no, he will not show it to Josie.
“Uh…how about, listening to the record of the piece? That might help you improve.” Ethan’s mom used to do that all the time, and he’d often ask why. “I guess it’ll make you memorize the piece better, and…get the feel of it. My mother used to say to close my eyes to get the music’s details.” Well, that’s what he’s been doing every time he wants to make a cover of a song on his guitar. It helped him lots, yup!

Ethan continued to play with a grin on his face. He’d already mastered this piece because, well, basically it is an exercise for his fingers, but the melody was really nice and it did bring good memories of the mornings he spent with his mother. He’d usually play this as soon as he’s out of bed, and waited for his mother to finish cooking breakfast. It was also Cassandra’s ‘alarm’ to let her know that her son’s already up and ready to eat the first meal of the day. As soon as he was done playing the last notes, he smiled, breathed in and out slowly…satisfied with his playing. He turned to his left and looked at Josie to tell her—
Wait…was she…crying? What? WHY?
The smile faded from his face and was replaced with worry. “What happened, Jo?” Ethan shifted on his seat and faced her. Why was she wiping her eyes? And…tears! Why were there tears? Ethan wanted to console her…but he’s got no idea how to do it…why? She’s a girl! He’s used to comforting his buddies, but…Josie’s a girl…and…GAAAH. He can't stand seeing her like that! Whatever happened to her smile??? “Are you okay? Did I say something that offended you?” Pause. “Was my playing that horrible?” Yes, maybe that’s the reason. “Merlin, I am so…sorry.” And how many times does he have to say sorry to her that day hmm?
Now what?
Josette listened carefully as he began to tell her how she might improve on this piece. Listening to the record of the piece, now that was a very clever thought. Why hadn't she thought of doing something like that. She nodded smiling a little bit,
"T-That might help..a lot.." Then he had told her how his mother suggested closing his eyes to get the music's details. Yet another technique she had never tried before. She couldn't help with her curiosity as she asked,
"D-Does that really work?"
Perhaps, she just might have to try these two techniques when she was practicing this piece again. Maybe even with Ethan there? Who knows.
...
She could see it in his face as he was playing that music was definitely looking to be a thing of interest for him. It actually felt rather nice to see that she had met someone else who had a love for music. Even though she really didn't have any interest when she had started, only because her father had made her start taking piano lessons. And even though they were rather difficult in the beginning, she'd soon grown to find it easier to learn the music & it was when she was playing the music correctly when she really discovered a new interest of hers. Was it like that for Ethan? Did his mother make him start playing piano, or did he want to learn all along? Regardless of whatever it may have been, he was very talented. Not only that, his mother was very talented to have written such a beautiful piece.
DRATS!
He did see her crying! Drats, Josette! Couldn't you have at least cried some other time? Perhaps from a letter from father? Or from that scary Professor in Transfiguration? Or something else? But from this? This was such a beautiful piece of work, written by his own mother. Why ruin such a moment as this with her own tears? She continued to wipe at her eyes before replying in a shaky voice,
"I-I'm sorry.." Josie hadn't noticed that he had turned to face her until she looked up to see his face not too far from hers. She blushed more as she tried to think of the words to speak. But somehow how she'd managed to answer his next question,
"N-No, no, no. You-You didn't...at all.." Then he'd questioned if his playing was that horrible to which she quickly shook her head.
"N-No, No...It-It wasn't horrible..E-Ethan-", she blinked.
"I-It..It was..beautiful.." She wiped at her eyes once more before giving him a small, but very sincere looking smile.
