I mean, if their bodies were buried, it wouldn't leech through the ground and infect other bodies, would it?" Cris asked. He shuddered at the thought of that happening....again!

Stretch....stretch...time to limber up to get those muscles warmed up.

His attention went from several students down to one. And that is Cris. Hi Cris! His question made his brain analyze the problem further. Based on their discussions, the Cold Ones can only be defeated by flaming arrows that are aimed at their hearts. This means that...they will get burned, right? And seeing that the Skygge can be defeated by a Blasting Curse which also meant destruction by fire, there is no way that these creatures will be buried without being toasted at least.

Hand up.

"I don't think a defeated Cold One or Skygge will infect the ground again once it is buried, because the fire that consumed them must have at least destroyed the infection as well." Orr...maybe not? Ethan scrunched up his nose and waited for Professor Romanos' opinion on this.

He did however did small stretching movements while still seated on his mat, and figured that they will be starting with the activity real soon.

While continuing to stretch, Cris listened attentively to his explanation about the fire burning any possible remaining traces of the magic that had created them in the first place. And it to be magic if they were still going on the assumption that it was a failed attempt at using the Rusurrection Stone that caused them to be infected in the first place.

Cris had to admit that Ethan had very good reasoning, but his answer got Cris to thinking on a different tangent.

Raising his hand, he asked,"Professor, can the magic from the Rurrection Stone be defeated by fire? I'm just running on the assumption that it was that magic that infected those buried in the ice and made them the Cold Ones," Cris paused to think further before continuing.

"Was it just its magic that created them or did it also empower them? Or did the Cold Ones have magic because they used to be wizards and witches and their magic has nothing to do with the Resurrection Stone at all?."

Oh my, plenty of questions! Though she didn't mind the help from Ethan with answering Cris' bountiful questions. "You are correct Mister Strand, as ve've gone over before in our previous lesson, it is partly due to the failed experiment during the creation of the resurrection stone leaking into the arctic ice that brought the vitches and vizards back to life. However, Mister Mordaunt is also correct in the assumption that fire will eliminate the failed elixir from their system. However..."

She paused in her stretching to continue. "If not burned by fire, or if the body is not delt vith properly after death, they can re-contaminate the artic, or any other place they haff fallen. Although, vhile this process is slow due to the arctic's hostile conditions for decomposing, bodies can be lost in most extreme conditions that the south has gone through." Crossing her arms to keep in the warmth she had, Medea glanced to the fires around the room. Not much help were they?

"Though it seems ve only haff theories to answer your final question Mister Strand. Vot ve do know, is that the failed elixir needs the magic in our blood to reanimate the body, vhich is vhy only vitches and vizards haff been victims. Vhether their magic comes from themselves or from the elixir is...currently unknown."

he raised his hand "Professor.. if you had a charm on you to make you invisible would they be able to see you like dementors?" because if they couldn't that would defiantly come in handy.
Turning her attention to the next student, she smiled towards Victor. "I haff not heard of their being problems vith the disillusionment charm to hide oneself against the Cold Ones or Skygge." Some actual good news this time? "Although, you vould still vont to keep in mind vhile you haff taken their visual of you avay from them, they can still hear you and see your footsteps. You'll need to be extra cautious during those times."

"Professor... can you assume that Skygge in the area indicate the presence of a Cold One? Or are they mostly autonomous?"
"I vould say they are more autonomous." she slowly nodded, rubbing her hands together. Did it just get colder in there or what? "Other than during the times they are summoned, there haff been sightings of them vondering elsevhere. Quite far actually, considering vot they're used for. Others, stick nearby. There isn't a predictable pattern vith them. Not that has been seen anyhow."

Her hand went up again after stretching them while the Professor was answering everybody else. Before lowering it quick, nope she wasn't going to try. She had no clue on what happened to them unless they turned into a puddle but after the whole Killing Cure incident she was keeping her mouth closed.

Arista raised her hand when the Professor asked for questions, "Are there any way for the Cold Ones to come back to life after being killed? Like if they were on the infected land?"
Eyebrows raised. "Good question." Indeeed. "Yes, that can happen. Under the circumstance that their heart was not damaged beyond repair before their death. Othervise, it vould be the last time they fall."

Well the Professor went and confirmed it. So really, if a battle ever happened, aim for the Cold Ones and the Skygges would follow. Seemed simple enough.

Oh! Oh! Oh! Was it question time already?

Lex's hand shot up. "What are the odds we'll ever have a Cold One invasion on the school grounds? I mean, we've had dementors...and man eating plants and spirits controlling said plants......just curious."

JUST curious...and anxious and possibly essited.
Medea couldn't help but not chuckle a little. Oh, Hogwarts.

"Vith Hogvarts' history, the chances are a lot higher than they should be." Ahem. AHEM! Clearing her throat, she shook her head. "But still, extremely low, no doubt. The Cold Ones live in the arctic on the other side of the vorld. It is...a very low chance, if any."

Surely.

Nobody could tell she was scared, could they? Because, Sophie could see these things easily becoming her Boggart.

They wouldn't come here, would they?!
"Can't say that I'm absolutely sure they vouldn't." If she were behing honest, which she was. "Maybe in time? Or maybe not at all and they'll stay in the arctic. Though I'm very sure the ice vould be cleaned up before any Cold Ones or Skygge had the chance of touching foot on land elsevhere."

So sure. Like. 95% sure. Maybe 90%. 85%?

The cleanup was a slow process...

No really, it was. Could she see how hastily he was noting things down? Because he was. The boy who usually hated taking notes and refused to do it on most occasions was filling up his journal with as much information on the Cold Ones and the Skygge as possible. It was probably messy but he didn't care. Nope. There was even a small drawing up in the corner of the two creatures. Just because.

Wasn't it funny that the idea of ice could help stall a creature that was frozen at the heart? Huh. Funny. He made a small note of that somewhere, too. Probably scrunched up in tiny writing along the margin because he didn't want to use another page for that.

As for any questions, something the Professor said about the Cold One's magic reigning over the Skygge's frozen heart made Grayson think and, eventually, raise his hand in the air. "Professor? Does that mean that the Skygge are only there to do the Cold One's bidding? Are they like the Cold One's Inferi?"

Still fascinated.
"That's a creative vay of putting it, but...yes. You may think of them as the Cold One's inferi." she nodded to the Slytheirn.

Looking out across the class, she absentmindedly rubbed her hands. Only a few seconds had she stopped her stretching and she already felt chilled to the bone. Goodness gracious. "Are there any more questions before ve move onto our practical portion of the lesson?"
