Dressed in his warmest clothes, with a scarf tied snugly around his neck, ear muff protecting his ears and a warm woolen beanie protecting his brain cells, Cris stood at the Lake's edge.

Cris couldn't wait to get on the Black Lake...to skate on it!! Yes it had been cold and Cris could see that everything was getting snowed over and freezing up, but he didn't expect the Black Lake to freeze over. He had heard that the Lake was deep and for it to freeze, the temperature would have to drop really drastically for that to happen.

He had run by here a couple of times and seen the surface of the lake, ice up but never did he imagine that the entire lake would freeze up too. But it had happened. The Black Lake was now solid ice. Cris first wondered about the legendary Giant Squid, Bartholomew and wondered whether he was safe. Then he thought about the Merpeople and felt sad for them. Chances are they had to move to warmer climates, away from their beloved homes.

Standing at the water's edge, Cris stared out at the entire lake. Then he sat down on a snow covered rock, put on his ice skates and then gingerly stepped out onto the ice.
