The story of Petrea Purpurea

Once upon a time, long ago, a happy world in which plants lived in harmony.. but suddenly a star exploded and a hot arid and suffocating enveloped the earth and the plants had not more sustenance. The dust was everywhere and the ground was so dry that the clouds bathed only sand and plants died. But one of these plants do not wanted to die, and said: “No, I have to live!” A rainy day the plant has seen among its leaves a funnel in which the water was collected. With the energy and power of the water collected inside, the plant itself did blossom a red flower with a unique fragrance. The flies, the bees and the ants, attracted by the wonderful aroma, got close to the plant to suck its nectar but instead a sweet taste of honey they found a terrible poison that petrified them immediately.
The insects have fallen into the funnel and the plant swallowed them.
For these reasons this plant has been called Petrea (because born from the rock ) PURPUREA (for the flower color) and its wonderful and dangerous fragrance is well known in the magical word. The unwary magician who comes close to it has mirages and visions, up to fainting.
Therefore, a good precaution before approaching this plant is: hold their noses !
The extract of the flowers of Petrea is used to make powerful Hallucinogenic potions.

Here's a story of how a little muggle girl got to be friends with Freddy, the Flesh-Eating Fir and Ella, the Enchanting Elm.

Serena lived in a little village lying next to an enchanted forest. Every day, she would play with her brother and sister in the open field behind their home and when it got dark, they would run home and have dinner with their parents. Once everyone had eaten and all the dishes were washed and cleared away, Serena would curl up with her brother and sister and listen to their mother as she read a story to them.

Most of the time, she would read stories about the flesh eating trees that lived in the enchanted forest. They were scary dangerous trees that were known to whip their branches out at any unsuspecting traveller passing by, grab them by their feet and drag them deep into the forest never to be seen again. Even though they were fairy tales, Serena and her siblings believed every word and would stay away from the forest they lived next to.

In fact, they weren't the only ones who did. Having heard rumors that some of these trees had actually been seen coming out of the forest during the night to hunt for food, it was normal for all the villagers to lock their animals safely into the barns, before the sun set. Once their stock were settled in, the adults would then usher their children and themselves indoors, closing all their doors and windows for the night, never venturing out until the sun rose again the following day.

Everyone was safe and sound, until one day, the unexpected happened. While playing tag with her brother and sister, Serena got disorientated and found herself deep in the forest. When she realized where she was, a very scared Serena began to make her way back home, trying to stay as quiet as possible.

However, no matter how much she tried to sneak out without being seen, unknown to her, some of the trees had caught her scent and were now stalking her. Serena only realized the danger she was in, when she heard a loud rustling noise behind her. Not daring to see what it was, she tried to run away, but it was too late. Out of nowhere, a tree pounced on her and wrapped its branches around her. It was an Ambushing Aspen!

Serena screamed and tried to get away but the tree's branches were too strong for her and they began to suffocate her. Just as she was about to lose consciousness, Serena suddenly felt the tree's branches loosen around before releasing her. Falling to the ground, she looked up and saw the Ambushing Aspen running away, with fresh bite marks along its back. Then another tree moved in front of her. It was a Flesh Eating Fir!!

Unaware that Flesh-Eating Firs didn't feed on humans, Serena cowered in fear thinking that the fir tree would try to eat her next. But then the Fir tree spoke to her. (Yes I know trees don''t talk human talk but for the sake of this story, let's just say it does).

The Flesh-Eating Fir told Serena his name was Freddy. He explained that he had heard her screams and had come to rescue her. And since he happened to be hungry, he figured that he'd take a couple of bites out of the Ambushing Aspen at the same time. Freddie asked Serena what she was doing in the forest and when she told him, Freddie asked whether she would come to the forest and play with him. He told her that none of the other Flesh Eating trees wanted to play with him....for obvious reasons...and that he was very lonely. Freddy promised to keep her safe, if she did. Grateful that Freddie had saved his life, Serena agreed.

And so, on those days when her siblings were too busy to play with her, Serena would secretly enter the enchanted forest and play tag with Freddie. Now since Freddie could move at least 7 miles an hour, he moved pretty fast. That made him a good tree to chase after and be chased by.

Oh yes, Freddie introduced Serena to his friend, Ella, the Enchanting Elm, another Flesh-Eating tree that didn't feed on humans either. Freddie promised not to bite Ella, if Ella allowed Serena to swing on her branch, to which Ella happily agreed for she was very fond of her bark.

So during those summer days, when it was too hot to play tag, Serena would swing on Ella's branch, while Freddie kept watch over her and helped push her.

....and that is how Serena became friends with two Flesh-Eating Trees...and lived to tell the tale.

The End
