Cris quickly lit his torch like the Professor had told them to do. As he cast the spell and said, "Incendio", Cris watched as the flame lit the torch. Then he ended the spell before proceeding to chant the galdr to the rune Kenaz again.

"kenaz kenaz kenaz... ku ka ki ke ko.. kun kan kin ken kon.. ok ek ik ak uk… kaunnnnnnnnn" and sure enough, he could see not only the runes on the torch start to glow. As for the flame, he really didn't any difference except for a momentary flash of brightness, but he figured that time would tell whether his chanting had been strong enough to keep the fire burning.

Keeping an eye on the flame as it burned, Cris waited for the Professor to lead them out to the lake.
