Others cast in the series include Keeley Hawes, Julia McKenzie, Marie Critchley, Richard Glover and Rory Kinnear, who will portray Barry Fairbrother, whose death began the downfall of sequences in the tale. Quote:
Keeley Hawes is to star in the TV version of Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling’s novel for adult readers, The Casual Vacancy.

Hawes, who gave the performance of her career in the second series of police thriller Line Of Duty, will join Michael Gambon in the three-part BBC-HBO drama about dark secrets behind the net curtains of the fictional West Country village Pagford.

Gambon, of course, has JKR form, having played Dumbledore in several of the Harry Potter films.

He will play local council leader Howard Mollison with Julia McKenzie as his wife Shirley. Keeley will play their troubled daughter-in-law, Samantha.

Simon McBurney will portray deputy headteacher Cubby Wall, who thinks he has committed heinous crimes. He has Harry Potter connections, too, having provided the voice of Sirius Black’s family house elf Kreacher.

Rory Kinnear, who plays M’s aide Tanner in the Bond films, will be Barry Fairbrother — a member of the parish council whose death sets off all manner of nefarious goings-on.Marie Critchley is also in the cast along with Richard Glover. They play Simon and Ruth Price, a couple in an abusive relationship.
