Ethan bounced a little as he listened to the next instruction of Professor Thompson, while the gears in his brain started to work. “If this is going to be a race, we have to go for the gray ones, yeah? They’re the fastest in the bunch.” He said as he leaned closer to Lily. Was she thinking the same thing? Hopefully, because she’s smarter and older than him. Mhm.

“Come on!” Ethan gestured Lily to follow him and claimed a Granian for themselves. “Hello there, Gray!” Not Grayson Whitlock, okay? He just decided to name the horse Gray because of its color. Nothing personal, Master of the Cloud. And of course, a pat and all that was in order, yeah? “I’m sorry about my hand. They’re cold and all. Bloody weather you got here.” He said as he extended a hand and patted the horse. Good horsie! Ethan approves! The Slytherin beamed and rubbed the horse further now with two hands. “I hope you’re not that cold, Gray. We have a race to win!” Ethan looked up at Lily and gave her a questioning look. “Can I steer Gray, Lily? I think you’re better with blasting stuff out of the way.” Again. Teamwork! He’s a snowboarder all right, and steering is as easy as pie…although not with a winged horse. Heh. “You have to wear the bridle now, buddy.” Because patting and rubbing was done, no? Clearing his throat and his mind, he pointed his wand just below Gray’s ear and traced a line up until the corner of its mouth. “Fixate!” And just like what Professor Thompson had done, the bridle was placed perfectly on Gray’s head.

“We're ready!” he said turning to his partner. Merlin, this boy is on fiiiiiyaaaaaaahhhh!
It had seemed to take no time at all to get over to where the winged horses and the carriages had stood, although once again, Lily had wondered if whatever had made the lake freeze over was responsible for how cold it was. It seemed colder over by the lake than it had over where the start of the lesson had happened, and she’d cast another charm on herself, occasionally turning it on Ethan as well, as Professor Thompson had explained that they were going to race the carriages. Without flying, which would have made it more nerve-wracking for her. Granted, the carriage was probably safer than a broom, yet she still would rather stay on the ground. Soon enough, though, they’d been released to actually accomplish the activity, and she’d glanced over as she’d heard her partner speak. “Seems like a good idea to me,” she replied, noting that several of the others had seemed to go for size over speed. Granians should be okay with pulling the carriage, as far as she was concerned, and it made them different. Different was good, and maybe it’d give them an advantage.

They definitely had energy to their advantage, as she’d found herself using every inch of her long legs to keep up with Ethan as he’d gone over and claimed one of the Granians for themselves. She’d smiled a little at the slightly uncreative name, anyway, reaching out to stroke the animal’s nose lightly as he’d kept talking. “I’m sure you’ll warm up when you’re allowed to start running,” she murmured to the horse, now apparently dubbed Gray, smiling again as it had nickered a little. It was almost like it was responding, hopefully to the affirmative. She’d glanced back over at Ethan as his comments had been directed toward her again, anyway, continuing to pet the horse as she’d listened. “Of course. Just make sure that you can handle the reins, because we want Gray to really use his speed,” she replied. They wanted to win. If that meant she had to blast snow out of their way, she’d do that.

She’d had to pull her hand away from the Granian’s nose quickly as he’d gone on to cast the Placement charm. She wasn’t planning on doing the blasting while attached to the horse’s nose, after all, but she’d given Gray another stroke after the bridle had been placed. “Okay now. Just another minute or so and then you’ll be able to move,” she whispered, before going over to the carriage and Ethan. “Yep. Did you want to get in first, or should I?” She’d be fine with them both jumping in at the same time, if he’d rather. It would save time, and they’d get going sooner. Mo and Lex had already started moving, so that meant they needed to as well.
