In this moment where candy was sprouting from float after float, did they even remember the story?? "I get the feeling they don't mind having their children muddled with so long as there's sugar involved?"

And there it was, the tight grip his niece now had him. She'd been jittery all evening but he thought it would have been all the candy getting to her. Evidently it was not. He couldn't see the look on her face but Emily having to remind her she was safe gave him a fair idea of what he was dealing with. "It's just pretend." He offered. "Like Ashley pretending to be a sickly, dead inferi. Nothing more." Some back up would be nice.

Also...Gavin leaned a bit closer to Emily. "Doesn't he look like the goblin we ran into down in Knockturn Alley?" He asked, in a low voice meant only for her ears, though with people this close, there was no telling what people would hear.

What was Zeke TALKING about? Ashley pried her eyes away from the goblin and the floats to look at her obviously confused brother who did not understand what Halloween WAS. "They aren't real. That's the point. It's pretend and dress up. What would they be doing with a real goblin and a real ghost?" Sometimes she wished he'd think more. Of all the fake stuff they'd seen he chooses to believe this. Sigh. He had a lot to learn. "They could have gotten a goblin from Gringotts but the ghost is probably a spell--an illusion spell like the ones Maman tells me about."

That had to be how they did it and the girl wanted to get a closer look, she just didn't know how well her uncle would take it if she and Zeke suddenly sprinted out into the middle of the street. 'Sides, she didn't wanna get smushed if the floats didn't stop. It was dark, they might not SEE her.

She'd only been distracted for a moment more before he said he wanted a goblin. "Pourquoi??--I mean, why? You could have a house elf instead. They're nicer and make better food if it's a pet your looking for." Unless it wasn't but then why else would he want one if not to make it his play thing? That would be her reason for wanting it.

Why was everyone so excited about the goblin and the ghost? Looking around she could hear what they were saying and honestly she thought they'd all lost their minds. Didn't goblins eat children? Ashley said they did and her sister was always right about everything. That made her even less likely to be willing to get off her Uncle's shoulders. It just wouldn't happen.

She heard Emily say she was safe and of course she believed her but that didn't make things any less scary than they were looking right now.

The 7 year old took a moment to consider her Uncle's words. Nothing was real? Everything was for pretend? Like the lady back at the Daily Prophet that got her extra treats? No. Non. She pointed. "The ghost is REAL. I saw him go through a wall."

It was the holiday, period. That's what she was blaming it on. It was so commercialised, so fake and there was too much sugar involved, even for her - and she thought there was no such thing. HA! "It's not, which is a shame... if you say you're going to do something, do it right..." and don't put blasted Goblins where they don't belong, she'd had enough of them for a lifetime. "Zeke wouldn't be able to tell the difference even if they spelled it out for him, he was never in it for the narrative journey." No, because that would have been so Ravenclaw of him if he had, and she'd have been proud... alas, there was no hope.

Of course Zeke wasn't her problem right now. No. He was entertained and as far as she could tell, keeping out of trouble. Avery on the other hand, was not coping, and this left hers and Gavin's attention divided. She would have offered more assistance in... reassuring her, but her parenting/guardianship skills were nowhere near developed enough for that, and she was certain that telling the girl to suck it up wasn't going to help. The only form of kindness she could afford Avery was a gentle pat on the leg. Yep. She was fine, it was Gavin's problem now.

Instinctively she leaned her head in towards Gavin's as he leaned in to her, and the comment about the Goblin registered loud and clear. Goblins... she'd seen too many of them, especially recently, to be able to tell the difference, but now that he mentioned it. "You're right." Emily extracted a hand from her pocket, ready to flick her wrist from its holster at any moment should she need to. Call her paranoid, but nothing good ever came from the KAers sight seeing in DA.

He heard something along the lines of pretend and not being real, but he was a little distracted by the candy that was being thrown his way. Not very skillfully, Zeke plucked a few from the air, catching them and fumbling them and giving up on them all at the same time. Still he had a fair idea of what she was jabbering on about. Smarty pants. "Nope, pretty sure they're both real," he replied stubbornly. "You're right about the Goblin, I think I saw that one last week when Emily ran errands... but the ghost is definitely a ghost, you can't fake that stuff," he said, convinced of the fact. "Cause WHY fake it? WE have to fake it, cause last I checked I wasn't a Death Eater and you not an Infeary ... BUUUTTT... why would they fake a ghost when they could just borrow one?" Borrow one, that's what this was, right? Or were they renting it? Was it volunteering? Was it just invited?

The idea of them being fake still plagued him, so with knit brows he tried thinking about it some more. Emily had always told him that there were no such things as stupid questions, except for when there were ... whatever that meant. But what she had also told him, and he listened, was that the most important question anyone could ever ask, was why. So he had. WHY would they fake it? WHY was it even here? WHY WHY WHY?!....

Zeke unwrapped a candy and popped it in his mouth under his mask, and then turned back to Ashley, the floats were a bit boring all things considered. Ashley asked smart questions too apparently, but of course she did, she was clever. "I dunno," he shrugged in reply. "I think they're neat... and if I had a pet Goblin it could help me break into Gringotts." Not that he was thinking of doing such things, but y'know, IF he ever needed the money. "And it could steal good food I'm sure." SEEEE! Logic! He had it!
