Wasn't she always complaining about the lack of food in her classes? "Yes, yes, exactly right!" Fina beamed at the first to answer; who even remembered the surprising ingredient too. "And sugar too!" Shocking, hmm? "Good, except no olive oil is used in the actual dough preparation. That's used afterwards." "Flour, yes. Essential ingredient." Fina nodded. "No spices are used in the actual dough preparation. Afterwards and before you bake, sure. But you're missing sugar from your list." Not that it was a surprising miss for many of them. "And sugar and salt too..." "Definitely sugar and salt too!" So yes, to all he mentioned, technically? "No butter," Fina shook her head. "Olive oil is used AFTER the dough is prepared though. Gives a nice flavor and a nice golden brown colouring to the crust." Fina nodded as another one stated flour was needed. That was the obvious ingredient. "Yes, yeast to make the dough rise. Good!" "...and sugar too." But other than that, she was right on with the ingredients. "Ah pre-made dough would be more convenient, yes," Fina smiled in amusement, "But see then, where would be the fun in not making your own?" She doubted he would be complaining about brewing a potion, so how was dough making any different? HMM, HMM? "And sugar too, is one of the ingredients," Fina nodded. "So as some of you mentioned, we do use sugar in the dough. Not a lot, but it is there as an ingredient." They'll discuss the whys of each ingredient once they gather all the ingredients together and are waiting for it to rise. But first things first. "Before we begin, please come put on an apron and wash your hands." Their hands were disgusting and grimy and surely they didn't want to get sick from preparing food with dirty hands? She indicated towards the various sizes and coloured aprons that were hanging on the hook by the sink as she donned a yellow one herself. She then retied her hair back into her a low bun. "And also, girls? And boys?" Technically. Ahem, Nigel. "Despite the dose of protein, you'll want to tie your hair back as no one wants hair in their pizza."
Whilst they were getting on their own aprons and washing their hair, Hadley set to work on copying the recipe onto the portable chalkboard: 1 1/2 cup warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon. yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
3-4 1/2 cups flour - Step One: Using one of the bowls at your workstation, combine the water, sugar, and yeast. Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes (or until yeast is bubbly)
- Step Two: Add salt and stir.
- Step Three: Add 1/2 cup flour and mix well, gradually adding more flour (usually no more than 3-4 1/2 cups) until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl and no longer sticks to your fingers. You'll want to add just 1/2 a cup at a time.
- Step Four: Spray the other bowl with cooking spray and place dough in the bowl.
- Step Five: Cover and allow the dough to rise for 45 minutes, or until its doubled in size.
"So the recipe for the dough is on the board. You may work in pairs, or individually, as there's enough ingredients for both options." Anything else they needed to know? "We'll discuss more about the ingredients after we get the dough prepared while we're waiting for it to rise." In the meantime they had to get the dough prepared, as that was possibly the longest part in the whole process.
Once she made sure everyone to got to work, Hadley settled into her own workstation. Because at least if they failed (and she was expecting at least SOME of their pizzas to not come out right), they would have one good pie. ooc: Dough prep time! I'll check back in about 11 hours or so for questions and whatnot. Feel free to make your character add too little or too much ingredients (if its IC of them to do so). And in about 17-18 hours, we'll be at step five - the waiting game and have some more discussion!
Jasmine could not wait to get started on the pizza. She needed to complete the pre-dough making process first. Jasmine reached into her pocket and retrieved a rubber band. Then she proceeded to gather up her hair as much as she could and tie it back with her rubber band. Hair properly secured, Jasmine went to find an apron. Jasmine decided on a pink one and quickly put it over her head, taking a moment to securely tie the apron's straps. Next she went to the sink and washed her hands thoroughly. Satisfied that they were clean enough to perform surgery or at the least make pizza, Jasmine was all set to make her dough.
