Yep, notes were happening.

"Another thing to note is that Thestrals are a breed of Winged Horses." The ones over by the side that were more easy on the eyes. Some were making shriek noises among another. "Who are considerably more tamer by nature and smaller in size. Can anyone share some of the other breeds of Winged Horses?"

Cutty was about to laugh outloud when Alexa mentioned the Thestral. But doing so would probably ruin the effect of her practical joke upon the class at large. So he held it in by way of smug and knowing smile.

Cutty was disappointed that this was not an elaborate hoax being put on the class. It might have made him forget about the cold. Instead, his shivering arm wrote in crinkled writing the notes about the thestrals as well as other types of flying horses.

One had to have seen death then? Cutty looked over at the Gryffindor Prefect and seriously considered if she'd ever killed anyone. You know, by accident or whatever she would've said at the time.
