"These buckets have purified water." For those who couldn't produce it.
He tapped his wand on the blackboard once for the steps to appear, and then walked to Sophie Newell's working station again. Once her cauldron was heating, he approached her in no time since she was sitting in front. "So the reason I gave a potion to you is," he said, talking in a normal tone, so anyone near could hear, "because you're a great student, and I wanted to show my appreciation. It is a vial of Baruffio's Brain Elixir. It increases your brain power. I know you're very ambitious and stuff," he smiled, "so I figured you'll like it. Thanks for being terrific. Enjoy extra brain power to defeat everyone."

It was one of those IRREVERSIBLE steps, see? They had to pay attention. "Okay. Count to ten and stir the potion counter clockwise once. Count to twenty and stir it clockwise once. Count to thirty and stir counter clockwise once again. Is it clear? Use a wooden stirrer, and don't forget to clean it before using - but you don't have to clean it every time. Once, thoroughly, at the beginning is enough and necessary." Got it?
Good.
He leaned on his desk to have a better view of everyone and to vanish any potions that went wrong after updating the blackboard. With half of her unicorn horn grated into a bowl, Sophie removed her gloves and set to lighting a fire under her cauldron with her wand, "Incendio," and brought it to a medium flame. She checked her watch to gauge when a minute would be over and busied herself with cleaning her gloves and getting her glass ready in the mean time. And she cleaned it again, too, even though she'd already done it. Culloden could tell her she didn't need to clean things multiple times all he wanted, but she was going to keep doing it. BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY.
...Was that a flailing Tobes? She caught him out of the corner of her eye and gave him a questioning sort of look, then eyed the Kyroh boy he seemed to be making friends with. Why was it always Kyroh lately? Soph decided right then that she needed to properly meet that bizarre little first year. Maybe he was cool, if he'd made friends with Culloden and Tobes already.
Half a minute was up, so Sophie busied herself with filling up her glass with purified water. "Aguamenti," she let the water fill up the glass, then sat back and checked her watch again. Sooooon... now the minute was up. She poured the first glass of her purified water into her clean cauldron, then cast the spell to fill her glass up once more and added it to the cauldron, then added ooone final glass of the purified water to it. There. All three. That's when she overheard the professor talking to Evil Slytherin Sophie, then, and the Ravenclaw watched with curiosity. A potion to boost her brain power? Ha! Good thinking on his part. Merlin knew she needed it.
........As Culloden explained the next steps, Sophie abandoned her glass and wand to pick up her quill, quick to scribble down the steps as he said them. She missed the very end, but was relieved when it was on the blackboard. Of course it would be. Still, best to write it down right away and get it in her brain to remember it better, yeah?
For now, she set to putting her gloves back on and gathering her ten hippogriff feathers. She added them to her cauldron one at a time, peering over the brim as they drifted down into the water below and counting quietly to herself as she went, just to make sure she didn't accidentally have one more or less. "... Eight ... Nine ... Ten." Okay. Just ten were added, so she started counting to ten like the board said, and kept an eye on the potion. The feathers looked kind of silly and pathetic down there in the purified water all by themselves, though. But whatever, they'd add more fun stuff soon enough.
Her gloves still on, Sophie picked up her clean wooden stirring stick and stared up at the blackboard to see which way to stir when the tenth second came - she became aware that Culloden was leaning against his desk right by her and felt the pressure to not mess up - when it did, she used her stirrer to stir her potion counter-clockwise a single time. Just once. Her gaze was still on the board, and she removed her stirrer to follow the next directions - she counted to twenty in her head, already reading on to see which way to stir next. When twenty seconds passed, she stirred one time clockwise. Feeling like the worst was over, she relaxed for the next thirty seconds, knowing she only had to count accurately and stir counter-clockwise once, so that's what she did. She kind of wished it had been the opposite way around - thirty seconds, twenty, then ten - so she could've worried less and had more time to read and mentally prepare herself for the next steps, but... she was pretty certain she hadn't crumbled under the pressure and messed it up. Counter-clockwise, clockwise, then counter-clockwise again, yeah? That's what the board said and what she'd done?
She thought so, at least, and she trusted herself well enough. Probably.
