Cris felt like his heart was bursting with joy the moment Jasmine described her feelings to him. That was exactly the way he felt, only she was better at verbalizing them than he did.
Smiling tenderly as she whispered the words, he never thought he'd ever hear. He wished that there was a way to stop time. In this very moment in time, never in his wildest dreams that he would feel as happy as he did now and he was afraid that the moment they left this beautiful place by the lake, Jasmine would awaken from her dream and realize that it had all been a mistake.
But the moment, he looked into her eyes, he knew that she really did feel the way he did.
"Jasmine, corny as it may sound, from the moment your lips touched mine, I knew that I never wanted to feel anyone else's lips on mine but yours," Cris declared as he reached out to caress Jasmine's lips with his fingers.
Looking down at their joined hands, he whispered, "I don't know what the future holds for us, but I do know that I will always want you in my life. I know that it's selfish of me, since we've only just met, and if you'd rather wait to get to know me better before replying to my question, I'll understand."
Taking a deep breath to gather up enough courage, Cris slowly raised his eyes and looked deep into Jasmine's. Heart pounding deep on his chest, he cleared his throat before asking,"Jasmine, will you be my girlfriend?"
The moment those words left his lips, he wished he could retract them. What if she said no? What if she laughed at him? What if she began to look at him with pity in her eyes?
Cris was afraid to find out, so he dragged his eyes from her and gazed back out at the lake.

Nothing else. No birds singing, not even a frog croaking. It was as if all the creatures had suddenly gone silent. Cris' hand tightened on Jasmine before he relaxed.
Maybe it was his anxiety that was making him imagine things. It was natural for the weather to change dramatically. They were now into Fall season.
It was a relief for Jasmine to put all of her cards on the table. Now Cris knew exactly how she felt about him. When he went on to say the sweet things that said next, she was almost overcome with emotion. She felt the tears forming in her eyes, but she managed to hold them in check. She couldn't believe that Cris wanted HER to be his girlfriend. HER! Inside of her head, Jasmine was screaming.
Jasmine was just about to give Cris an answer when she noticed him frown. She felt cold all of a sudden and pulled her jacket tighter. It was strange because it seemed eerily quiet when it hadn't been just moments ago. Jasmine gave Cris a puzzled look and asked,
"Do you feel that? What was going on and why was it going on now?
