"Not as a 'soulmate', 'course not," he replied, but her mind was already working too fast, and before he could stop it, she was already at somewhere she shouldn't be.

"He's already got a father." He very well understood what she was implying - marriage and living at the same house and 'step dad' stuff, but Bart didn't even need a step father, see?

"Soph, he's not going to take your place." His tone had probably never been this soft before, and he was looking into her eyes in worry. He had only one almost-child person, and that was her.
