Hayden took note of the information Kate was feeding her about siblings. She'd never been able to experience any of that herself, not on the same level. She had cousins and other family members, but that wasn't really the same. Not even with the ones she was close to. "It's kind of lonely sometimes," she said in response to Kate's question. "I don't have anyone I can really talk to. No older siblings to teach me about the world, or even pick on me but I suppose that's okay. I have cousins, some that I'm really close to even but it's not the same. The cousin I'm closest to is a muggle so I have to hide so much I feel like I'm lying all the time. It can be hard." Wow that sounded depressing. Hayden didn't like being sad because it was an infectious feeling that didn't go away. So she tried to stop it and turn the conversation cheerful again.

"It can be good though too. I can be really spoiled because my parents don't have anyone else to buy presents for." Grandparents either. The rich ones at least. But that grandma only bought her books, which could be nice sometimes but some of them were way too boring for an eleven-year-old. Luckily for her, grandpa always snuck her treats and stuff.

Kate frowned. Being an only child sounded really sad. Hayden's only child-ness made her especially glad to have her brothers, even if she couldn't tell them anything about Hogwarts or her new classes. Despite not really knowing her cousins, Kate imagined that one day she'd be able to relate to the feeling like she was lying part of her relationship with the cousin. Knowing about magic was still new to Kate, but she figured it would get tough when she graduated and had a magical life all the time. How would she relate to her brothers then?

"Sometimes I get spoiled because I'm the only girl!" And sometimes she got hand-me-down bikes and coats. It was like the best of everything, being set apart as the only girl but also having four siblings. "I think when you grow up having siblings doesn't matter as much. Because you have to make effort to see your siblings just like you do for people you want to be friends with."

All of this talking about siblings and family was making Kate want to write a letter to her brothers. She really missed them when she had time to think about it.
