She was glad they had met. In fact she couldn't imagine being at Hogwarts without him. When Cris looked into her eyes again, Jasmine almost forgot how to breathe. She didn't have that many friends who were boys, but she most certainly never had one who made her feel like Cris did. All of this was new to Jasmine and she wasn't exactly sure what to think........but then the talk turned to birthdays.

"When I was a little girl I used to have birthday parties with my friends from school and the neighborhood. We'd have pizza and cake and do something like ice skate or miniature golf. As I've gotten older, I've gotten more low key. I just like to hang out with my family and maybe a friend or two.......and cake, there must be cake and candles. I like a good old fashioned, generic birthday cake. Yellow cake and lots of white icing....yum.

Jasmine listened to Cris describe his childhood birthday parties. "Food fights? Seriously?" She could not imagine that scene nor could she ever imagine her parents allowing a food fight in their house. "I've never had the pleasure", she said. Then Jasmine remembered. "Hey, you never told me your favorite food. And since we're talking cake, what kind do you like?" Important questions, you know?

How had he been so lucky to have met someone as beautiful as Jasmine? Cris paused to think. Not only was she physically beautiful, she was also beautiful on the inside. She was gentle, kind and caring. All the traits one would wish for themselves. And here she was. Even if she wasn't beautiful on the outside, Cris knew he wouldn't have cared. She was special to him and nothing would ever change that.

Her softly whispered, me too, tugged at his heartstrings. The way she looked at him made his heart skip...like it was dancing for joy. He wanted to reach out and cup her face in the palm of his hand but instead reached out and threaded his fingers with hers. He smiled gently at her as his thumb softly stroked the top of her fingers.

They were talking about birthdays, so Cris tried to concentrate on what Jasmine was saying, even though his eyes kept darting to her lips instead. Not wanting to be caught staring, he mentally shook himself and refocussed on the conversation.

"Ice skate? I didn't know you skated? I speed skate competitively. Maybe one of these days, we could skate together. I for one, would like to try some miniature golf. I haven't played that since I was this high," Cris raised his free hand about three feet off the ground.

He laughed when she described the cake she loved. "Yellow cake and lots of icing huh...the better to smear your face with kind of icing?" he teased her before continuing.

"Yes seriously, we had food fights back home. Of course we were made to clean up after we were done, but those were the best birthday parties ever. I myself love Chocolate layered cake with fresh banana inside. Yes I know it sounds weird, but actually it takes really good, especially the ones my mother baked," he explained.

Just the memory of when he last ate such a cake, made him smile fondly. He made a mental note to himself to OWL his mother to make and send one to him.

"Favorite food? I love chicken salad, spaghetti and meat sauce, shepherd's pie and Rocky Road ice cream. What about you? What's your favorite?" he asked in return. Cris liked the way they were revealing stuff about themselves to each other. This was way cooler than having to dig it out from the other person. And for some reason, he didn't feel uncomfortable telling her. He trusted her.
