"I haven't actually had that experience before. That meeting someone and hitting it off immediately experience. At least not until now, and with you. It does feel like I've known you all my life. Maybe we were destined to meet, but we just had to wait until now to do so. Who knows," Cris shrugged before looking deep into her eyes again.
"All I know is that I'm glad I did," he smiled gently at her nodding in agreement when she mentioned that they were going to be old friends. Cris smiled at that thought. Yes they were definitely going to remain friends for life but he wondered at the same time, whether they would be more than just that. Based on how he felt whenever he was with her, Cris began to realize that friendship wasn't the only thing he wanted to share with her. He just hoped that Jasmine felt the same way too.
"April 22nd huh? Okay that date has been permanently stored in my memory banks. So how do you normally celebrate your birthdays?" he asked with interest. "Before I attended boarding school, my mother would bake this humungous cake and have friends come over and we'd have a food fight, with the cake as our favored choice of ammunition," Cris laughed as he recalled those fun days growing up.
"What would be your favorite choice of cake?"
Jasmine thought about what Cris said, that their meeting was destined to happen. She wondered what else destiny had planned for them.
"Me too", Jasmine said softly in response to Cris' statement. She was glad they had met. In fact she couldn't imagine being at Hogwarts without him. When Cris looked into her eyes again, Jasmine almost forgot how to breathe. She didn't have that many friends who were boys, but she most certainly never had one who made her feel like Cris did. All of this was new to Jasmine and she wasn't exactly sure what to think........but then the talk turned to birthdays.
"When I was a little girl I used to have birthday parties with my friends from school and the neighborhood. We'd have pizza and cake and do something like ice skate or miniature golf. As I've gotten older, I've gotten more low key. I just like to hang out with my family and maybe a friend or two.......and cake, there must be cake and candles. I like a good old fashioned, generic birthday cake. Yellow cake and lots of white icing....yum.
Jasmine listened to Cris describe his childhood birthday parties.
"Food fights? Seriously?" She could not imagine that scene nor could she ever imagine her parents allowing a food fight in their house.
"I've never had the pleasure", she said. Then Jasmine remembered.
"Hey, you never told me your favorite food. And since we're talking cake, what kind do you like?" Important questions, you know?
