Our most recent first place winner, Grrr..Meow, had this great advice for us on how she makes her icons, like the one from 1w1p: round seven, pop. Check it out!

SPOILER!!: Robyn's advice
For my tip i'll show you the same colouring and pattern overlay that i do for most of my graphics, with the exact numbers and steps.

this is the image i'll be starting off with.. there has been no alterations

Before:

now go to Layer > New Fill Layer > Pattern.. it will show you the patterns you have saved.. I used photoshop (can't remember which one) and I have downloaded pattern overlays. You can find this online

once you choose your fill layer go to Layer Style > Blending Options > adjust the Opacity to "5" this makes the layer not so crazy and that you can see the image behind the layer fill. Adjust the channels "R", "G" or "B" to get the colour you like to see.

that part is done now to adjust the colour I use these three all the time

1.Brightness/Contrast
2.Vibrance
3.Color Balance

Go Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast, adjust the numbers so they read
Brightness:35 & Contrast:34

Go Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Vibrance, adjust the numbers so they read
Vibrance:+28 % Saturation:+23

Go Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance, adjust the numbers so they read
Cyan/Red:+69, Magenta/Green:+21 & Yellow/Blue:+15

now your image should look like this!

After:

YAY!! go and enjoy the tip 's

ALRIGHTY THEN, Robyn, we will use your tip in our next round!
