"I mean that's not what I wanted to ask, but I just thought of it," she added after realizing that she was already distracting herself from the task at hand. She waited a few moments, taking in the office, and the fishing supplies, before asking her real question.

"So I heard that there was a secret door to somewhere in Ravenclaw tower," she continued conversationally, seemingly disinterested in such a fascinating rumor. Her tactic had switched slightly from direct asking, to casually bringing the topic up in conversation. She could always come up with another reason to seek out the librarian if he asked what she "really" came here for. In fact, she was still researching how to become an animagus, which was a legitimate excuse.
