In all honesty, he wasn't sure what sort of a response he was expecting. He had never said that before, except on occasion to his parents, sister, and sooooooometimes Pebbles, so he really had no expectations at all because platonic feelings were very different from what...this was.
So he kept taking small steps back towards his actual seat....only to freeze wide eyed at her words. She...what?
Feeling very much like how he imagined being sucked into a black hole would feel like, he just stared back at her while gripping the bottom of his suit jacket.
"You.........do?" Oh look. There were some words. Words that he probably should have best stopped at but he kept going anyway. "You don't have to." Like, just in case it was the socially acceptable reply to just say those words back. Had always been the case with his family. Minus Pebbles.
Just going to continue to stand her awkwardly in disbelief. Yep.
