He took his notes out and scratched through the stirring part.
Cosgrach watched him clean his stirrer first and smiled to himself. Good. He got potions brewing alright, and he did the right thing as well. His potion turned green.

"Well done." Pause. He turned to Sophie before he explained further.

The potion was now half green, half red, which meant she was at least doing something. "Looks a little like Christmas," she commented aloud. She reached for her stirrer then started to put it in her cauldron. She paused before doing so, though.

"Ohh, I see what you did there. You thought I might stick a dirty stirrer in my potion," she said, grinning at the professor. He was really determined to make them work for this potion, wasn't he? She quickly cleaned the stirrer, grinned again, then set about the process of reversing the three clockwise stirs.
Cosgrach chuckled. "It does." It would be a calming sight if it wasn't the wrong colour.

...he laughed again in high spirits. "I did, I won't deny." And she didn't. He didn't know if it was Mrs. Lafay or him, but he would like to think he taught her well.

And her potion turned fully green too. Great!

"Okay, so, both of you," he said once they were done with the stirring, "have to correct the two extra Valerian sprigs. What would you add to your cauldrons?"

Now, this would show how much potions they knew.
