Cosgrach followed them into the laboratory a few minutes later after making sure everything was alright in the classroom. He glanced at both of the potions and sat between the two.
"You might want to put the fire out, because you don't know anything about the liquid in your cauldron," he said to the boy. "So that's our step number 1. Identify the potion, which steps went wrong and how they should have been." They both had notebooks, though, so he didn't wait for them to answer.
"Step two: start from the last wrong step. I made you wave your wand incorrectly, so that's the most important thing that caused damage. I see you both were successful in reversing that," he eyed them both and smiled, "so step three: reverse the whole steps until you reach a safe point." He paused to take a breath and see how closely they were listening.
"How do you think the whole step of 'stir this and that way' can be reversed?"
How should they reverse things? Heh. Sophie grinned.
"We should throw out the potion and start over," she said. She grinned again.
"Well, it would solve the problem. Just kidding, though." She took out her notes and showed them to the professor.
"I copied the correct instructions here. We were only supposed to stir three times in a clockwise direction. I remembered how you told Lex to stir from the outside with her wand and then from the inside with the stirrer. All in the correct direction. I don't think that worked for me, though."
She looked toward her cauldron full of muddy water.
