Pulling out his notes from his pocket once more, Ben realized the next and final step might need just a tad more concentration and stability. He would, afterall be actually carving into the stone with the spell. So he gave in and sat down once more, slipping his legs around so he was facing the table and his work before laying out the parchment with both the spellwork that he needed and the design he had come up with.
A crescent moon with the opening on the right side. The original design he had seen in the book had been a bit more intricate but the Gryffindor just wasn't sure he could get it that way. His spellwork wasn't that delicate and finely toned for all the small little lines and such within the overall outer shape. So he was keeping it simple to avoid too many mistakes and having it turn out yucky overall. Hopefully he wasn't penalized for that but he was only a second year. He couldn't do what an older student could do.
Taking a deep breath, he prepared himself for the task, finally moving his free hand to hold the stone diamond in place on the edges so it didn't move as he worked. "Intaglio..."he finally cast, pressing the wand tip to the surface of the stone and imagining the image strong in his mind. His wand moving along the surface with his guiddance into the shape he watched from the parchment. It was slow going but when Ben had finally allowed one end of the mark to meet the other end closing it all off he had a nice crescent shape upon his stone.
