I guess I just meant that there isn’t a point in worrying while I explain exactly what’s up especially considering there’s no point in hiding the truth.” he replied then grabbed a chocolate and ate it since hopefully that would have been able to allow him to think. It was hard to reconsider the point, since figuring out how to mention the reason behind his stuttering outside of what already had been said. His girlfriend deserved nothing but the truth and that had unfortunately meant delving into things which he permanently wanted to keep a secret. Couldn’t happen that way though.

After hearing her speak, he blinked and then realized how things sounded; dear Merlin, lately it appeared that he was incapable of making things better. Just worse for everyone that was important to him, whether it be friends or the one that he loved more than anything. “No.. I.” he tried to explain but only took her hand anyway so that he had her attention. “It’s not your fault Lily. It wasn’t your fault that I got upset, if it was anyone’s fault; it’s mine because of the fact that I had started to ignore your conversation which started all of this. You’re not to blame, you just have to believe that.” This was supposed to be a happy day, not one that ended up causing both of them to be annoyed and frustrated. “The stutter only happened because of something when I was younger, I just haven’t explained that to anyone before.” Hopefully she would have believed him since there was nothing else that could have been said.

Lily was starting to rethink the idea of getting a sandwich or something, if only because it would provide her a better distraction from what she felt was about to be a bad situation. Maybe even worse than the one back when she’d been talking to West. It probably wasn’t as bad as what had happened to her at the beginning of last summer, but then, Austin hadn’t technically been involved then. Back then she’d just thought of him as a friend, but now it was more and she felt horrible for making him feel so upset that he’d stuttered. She could pick at a sandwich easier than she could berries, but then she also didn’t want to get up and make him think she was leaving. Plus, he hadn’t apparently either heard her comment about how he’d never stuttered around Astrid or he just wasn’t responding. It was all weird and even the music wasn’t helping. “But you aren’t explaining. You said not here,” she said softly. It sort of felt like he was still hiding the truth, and she wasn’t sure if there was anywhere in the school where he would have felt safe enough to really explain. Obviously she wasn’t planning on going around telling everyone, either. It was all just complicated and making her even rethink the berries. Not eating would be better when she felt this bad.

Then the band announced yet another break, and that meant she didn’t even have that distraction. It was just her thoughts, since the background music wasn’t enough to help her feel any better. She’d continued just poking at what was left in the bowl, her green eyes more trained on that than anything else just because she didn’t want to look up and see him trying to convince her she wasn’t at fault. It didn’t matter what he said. She knew what had happened. She’d been there, and it had been what she’d said that had caused all of this. She’d glanced at his hand as it had reached over and taken hers, stopping her berry poking for the time being, but otherwise still didn’t look up. “You weren’t upset until I’d gotten irritated at you. It is my fault,” she said, just as quietly as the previous sentence she’d spoken. She knew he’d hear her now, without the live music playing in the background. He couldn’t convince her otherwise, not when she knew he was just trying to make her feel better. She didn’t want a lie just because it would make her think she wasn’t horrible. She’d peeked up at him as he’d made another effort, though. “That’s why it exists, not what caused it this time.”
