Harper was trying not to raise his voice too much since he didn't want to draw the attention of any adults but he didn't like that this girl was blaming him. And she was bigger too, which galled him slightly. Why did he have to be shorter than everyone?

Harper stood his ground but he also got ready to put on the waterworks and to fall over if need be. That always worked out for him, and if he said she pushed him she was sure to get in trouble and be forced to apologise.
