Maybe he didn't know what 'pieing' meant? Maybe he thought it was EATING pies like it probably meant in his era? Because--surely--why else could he be smiling? It didn't make sense. It was completely senseless. Cosgrach just STARED at the man with mouth agape, and didn't even bother to return the smile or wave. Should he... explain him what exactly it meant? No one would hold it against him, y'know. The younger man seriously considered it for a moment--urging him to get out of there before it happened--but he was distracted by...

...'I'm here'.

A cheerful one, that was.

Cosgrach said "Oh well done," to her, frowned, then turned his attention away. At least she knew to get in the line. Clever. For that, she wasn't reprimanded more, but the scorning eyes turned at...

...the groundskeeper, who, very rudely, ignored him. At least he didn't ignore the students but rather glared at them. Cosgrach wasn't going to do more than just a nod towards his direction, since he was the older man here that should be shown more respect.

Yeah, he was pretty grumpy. Don't mind him.

The firstie or whatever Gryffindor, the little golden badger, the brunette, mischievous-looking Ravenclaw, and the old but apparently not wise Slytherin each received puppy-dog faces of begging as well.

Then came the guest of honour, the always-breath-taking Annie.

To be pied.

That wasn't going to take breath at all.

Cosgrach wanted to give her a piece of his mind too. No, he wanted to give her TWO minds. As MANY as it would take her to understand such cute faces wouldn't save her from the tongue of Aparecium or the kids, and now she was going to live with the shame. That Gryffindor boy, for example--Cosgrach BET his year's salary that he would tell everyone he got to PIE The Headmistress of Hogwarts. He could get Botros to some extend, but Annie--WHEN and HOW had she turned into such a--a--soft person? Was it that husband--

...Well, she was already there, posed right by his side, so hopefully he wasn't going to shoo her away.

The second year wasn't going to lie - she was quite pleased that Bunz was a chosen one, since she had voted for her. It was almost funny that the Groundskeeper was there, too, because the guy was so big and scary and intimidating and she didn't know him so she didn't have any sort of emotional attachment to the guy. So she didn't care if he was a chosen one and thought it would be funny to see someone so masculine and tough being made a fool of.

But Botros was there.

Botros. The kindest, sweetest, most gentle old man Sophie had ever met. The grandfather figure to all.

Her posture slumping and her expression falling with immense concern, Sophie gently nudged the Potions Master and whispered in the quietest, most heartbroken voice, "If I slip you a few galleons, can we get Professor Botros out of this? Pretend the votes were miscounted? Set him free from this?" Of all the adults lining up, if she could help one of them, she wanted it to be the Runes professor. "Please? This is awful." What made it worse was that Botros almost looked HAPPY to be there. How could he be? The second year looked on at him with the utmost sadness and remorse. If Culloden wasn't going to let her save the old man, she was going to leave. She wasn't going to stick around and watch. Poor guy.

Cosgrach didn't mind Sophie's presence at all. If anything, he seemed somewhat relieved, because he was SURE she would somehow calm him down, especially if he tried to save Botros or Annie. He didn't care too much about the rest of the to-be-pied people, but those two were just... WRONG.

He didn't--couldn't--smile at her, but he did squeeze her shoulder a little to acknowledge her. He hoped she saw he was too stressed to communicate much, though, and his eyes were restlessly by the door. Where were the rest of the professors? He was so concentrated on the door that he jumped slightly in shock when she nudged him, but bent down slightly towards her to hear the whisper better. He noted the voice and was pleased to see that she cared, but looked at her angrily. His anger wasn't towards her, though. It was towards the universe.

"It is," he said in distress. It WAS terrible! "But I'm afraid not. He, himself, consented to it. He probably thinks it's eating a pie." Which made it even more awful. His forehead was fully creased in worry now.

"Maybe you should not watch it." Keep her respect for them and all.
