Chains were better than that foot grip one for sure. A tiny bit better. At least something that you could use in a duel. Be pretty painful on your opponent wouldn't it? Chains were heavy. And OBVIOUSLY West was going for a dummy not the wall. That wouldn't help with practicing aim after all.
But since it was a conjuring spell his confidence was pretty high, Transfiguration being his easiest wandwork subject and all.
He went over and claimed a dummy, examined it closely, and then took several paces away from it so that he could turn and aim. Ligatenous? He repeated it.
