Yes he noticed the grin he gained and admitted it was the better of the responses he could have gotten out of her. Definitely better then the near-glare he had gotten at the end of the last report he had given Emily. "Of course..." Simon mused with a nod. The woman didn't need to know that he was simply covering his bases when he asked permission. Better to have it confirmed especially if he ever had someone try and deny him access anywhere while he was patrolling.
"I'll do my best." That's all he himself could promise. It wasn't like the orientation a couple of years before when he alone had been wand weigher to most of those arriving there. Now there were others involved in the security of the atrium besides him and it wasn't as if he could guarantee their own complete compliance. All he could do was keep an eye on them as back-up when he was there.
Emily wasn't much for talking, and neither was Bennett, or so it seemed. Not for the first time, conversation lulled between them, and it didn't occur to her straight away. No. Emily kept reading, flicking, itching for her quill -- but resisting the urge to add annotations to the report... for now. A few moments passed, until she came to her senses... he was still here.
"Sorry, was there something else?" Anything else? Anything at all? Otherwise he was welcome to return to his duties. Mmhhmm. Emily fixed him with a gaze, eyebrows raised in anticipation.
