He gave her small nod, and a smile before addressing their next topic they were very eager about. "The Race is on then, but not in the Forest. Terrible footing, you could trip and sprain your ankle from a root." He gave the both a raised eyebrow. "Instead we race on my terms. We start on the Pathway closest to here, and end at the Pitch." They shouldn't be too disappointed. Besides would they really expect him to believe the previous Groundskeepers took them on leisurely walks around the Forbidden Forest, not likely. "Do we have ourselves a race Lex, Lottie?" Quote:

Lex blinked at it even as it was offered. "That's not gonna work..." She began slowly, still eyeing the paper towel. "It soaks stuff up. Ink...ink is soak up-able, very much so. The note won't last all that long and I'd try running to the Headmistress before it fades and spreads but I'd be winded by the time I get there then she'd never take me seriously." This wasn't gonna work, was it? "I'll just, come back with some parchment." Sometime before the term really got under way and Professors started moving about enough to notice the absence of the 'Mr'.
There was internal beaming when Lottie jumped right onboard with her forest running idea. Of course she would. They had history in there. T'was a fun place afterall and as horrible as it was lying about a practically dead man, she had to say the mention of Cantwell and Firth was a good touch nevermind what that rug in detention had to say about that. There was a bit of nodding as she did her best to back this up but then he was going on about footing? "It's not a problem. We're well acquainted with the forest. Footing shouldn't affect us much." Technically that was the complete truth. They'd both been in their more than once. She would have pointed that out next were it not for him giving suggestions. Er....let's all take a moment to remember Lex only wanted to visit the forest and was in NO WAY inclined to have a run with the walking wall of muscle no matter how slow he confessed to being. No. Just no. If she ran it had to be for a good reason and this...this testing his speed thing wasn't good enough. Only Lottie wanted to know how fast he was. "You and Lottie have a race." She corrected. "I can fly overheard incase you guys need a 'photo finish' of sorts." Even if she was pretty sure he stood no chance against her bestfriend. Just saying.
Well, then.
This was one BRIGHT Groundskeeper. Lottie kept her eyes on Lex as he brought the paper towels. At least he got one part of that right. HA, blinking. Priceless. And her best friend was ultimately right, you know? The note won't last at all. Quite frankly, they ought to stop the whole 'note' business, because it surely wouldn't matter in the end.
Now, OH MERLIN. Lottie almost laughed. Almost. There was a smile on her face, though. "It is true. We know the forest very well. And I don't trip." If for some reason she was blindfolded in the forest, then that would be a different case, but with her full sight... no problems with the forest at all. AT ALL. "Thank you for caring for our safety. Which is ultimately yours." Right. Because part of his job was to keep the students SAFE.
The only Groundskeeper who took them for a walk (albeit back FROM the forest) was Firth. Lottie wasn't lying. Technically.
A race on his terms, though? "That's all the terms? A race from the pathways to the Pitch? I can do that." Easily. She'd run longer distances. Especially when she was running late for Quidditch and actually cared about not being late. "It's a deal on my part." Cue sweet smile. |
