That smirk wasn't as annoying when it wasn't implying things that bothered her, Alice decided. But the Hufflepuff sitting out on this crazy stunt was most definitely not allowed, so she hopped down and forcibly pulled Olly up.

"So what you do," she instructed, gesturing as she spoke, "is brace your hands against the banister and push yourself up, then kick one leg over it and sit. And then the staircase starts moving and we slide. Got it? Good. Your turn." Fixing her company with a patient look, Alice nudged her towards the banister.

C'mon, Olly, she didn't have all day.
