She was surely about to break down if she hadnt been... well, probably would have but wasnt too sure. "Ummm... too early to say for sure... I have been out and about, exploring the grounds before classes start up." Mel gave a weak smile, "It is nice to meet a few people... totally different from being an only child... that I can say for sure..." Melek sighed, "Though I might have lost my childhood friend after the fight we had at the feast..." Tears started to threaten to appear but she closed her eyes and took a calming breath before opening them. Mel knew her mother would shame her if she was caught crying in public.
Melek looked at her, "Hogwarts is so much different than Turkey... I only really been in Turkey and somewhat Russia... but the Russia was to see Annaleecia since she had moved there after... well... that is her story to tell..." She sighed and continued, "I mean other than Diagon Alley and the Kings Cross station... this is the only nonTurkish place I have been too... I dont get to travel much and everything is just so different..." A frown appeared, "The food here is dreadful as well... if you try the food in my hometown, you would never go back to this garbage..." Her eyes grew, "Sorry... I didnt mean to be so rude..." A frown appeared, "Perhaps I have talked too much..." Melek cast her eyes down at her hands and started to nibble at her thumbnail again.
Her thumbnail started to bleed a little from the chewing so she started on her other thumbnail so as to not make the bleeding one worse. Melek sighed, happy that her mother wasnt here so that she couldnt see her nails. Her mother had tried to break it every way she could think of but it didnt stop Mel from chewing her nails when she was nervous or upset. She let out a sigh and kept nibbling on the nail. It would probably be wise to break the habit but it was calming her down in this strange place... and anyways, she could probably get her nails done somewhere in Hogsmeade or have Annaleecia do them... well that is if Annaleecia and her make up... and that thought started to bring tears back to threatening. Her nibbling grew and she sighed as she glanced up at the older girl.
Embarrassment shone in her eyes and on her cheek as her hand flew from her mouth into her lap, clasping with the other hand. She looked out the window and sighed, just wanting to curl up on the couch or leave the tree house and go hide or even better, go to the dorm room and bury herself with pillows and blankets. Melek could already hear her mother lecturing her... though she probably would be even angrier since it would be wasting even more of her so precious time but then again, Mel was already used to her mother being mad at her and her father just standing there, doing nothing. Her mother ran the household and her father simply just followed orders. Her father was a bit kinder than her mother... well when her mother wasnt around that is but she hardly seen either of her parents...
Melek blinked and tried to draw herself away from her thoughts, "Sorry..." Mel got up, "I think I shall leave you be... as so not to offend you or anything..." Mel longed to stay though but she started to back away, hoping that the older girl would call her back and let her hang around her. She wouldnt blame the girl if the girl said bye and let her go though... Melek sighed and got to the part where she had to go off the balcony and onto the main part. Mel couldnt quite pull herself to go down it though. She looked at the older girl, waiting for the okay to say or the dreaded bye. Lana slowly removed her jacket and got comfy. This place was pretty awesome after all, she knew she's be spending a lot of time up in that balcony for sure. Setting her jacket over her lap, she smiled at Mel. "Exploring is always good. There are still a number of places that I need to explore. I find a new place to explore every term," she replied. The castle and the grounds had so much to offer. "Meeting people comes with the territory. I know when I was new, I had the hardest time and I have a sister that makes friends so much more easier than myself." Laura was the more out-going one after all. "But different can be good too, right?" A change of pace and environment was sometimes needed in her opinion. At the sight of possible tears, Lana moved forward in concern. "A fight? You know how many fights I've had since I started at Hogwarts?" She needed to help cheer her new friend up. "Every year, I would have a fight with my sister and every year we would make up. I'm sure you haven't lost your friend. I say give her some time and see how things work out." Some time it was okay to let things cool off and run their course before trying to fix things.
Lana sat and listened to what Mel had to tell her. Taking in as much as she could and nodding in understanding. "I know it can be very scary to be somewhere new, I know I was a bit terrified when I first went somewhere completely new." Change and her had never really gotten along and she didn't enjoy being outside her comfort zone, but it was just something that she needed to do. "Oh, no it's not rude. You are entitled to your opinion," she smiled. "Really, I take no offence to it. We all like different things and that is okay. You know that our differences are what make us unique and that's completely okay." No one was the same and personally, Lana enjoyed the differences. "But talking is good. Sometimes you just have to get whatever is bothering you out in the open," she offered with a nod. "You want to hear a story about me?" she asked as she watched Mel before her. It was killing her inside to see her friend so upset. "You met my sister, Laura, at the feast. We are twins. Same birthday, I was born first; so I'm just a little older. Do you think we are anything alike?" They kind of looked a like, but they were not identical at all. "We fight like cats and dogs most of the time. We can't even agree on things when we are at home," she continued on as she remembered all the fights they had through their years. "But do you think that had ever stopped us from being friends and sisters?" Arguments were natural and she knew that no one got along with everyone all of the time. Hello, that was nearly impossible! "Misunderstandings and fights happen. We can't dwell on them too much and sometimes dwelling just adds fuel to the fire. You and your friend will work through this. Talk it out after you both had time to cool off and stuff." Of course, she still had no idea what the fight was about; but she had a feeling that whatever had happened wouldn't end a friendship.
Lana leaned over and patted Mel's knee before she could get up. "You have no reason to be sorry," she replied with and concerned smile. "And you have not offended me at all. I enjoy your opinion and you really don't have to leave at all. You found this place and you should enjoy it. Come back here and tell me about all the places you have explored already," she added as she patted the couch where Mel had just been sitting. Lana didn't want the younger girl to leave upset and a part of her sensed something else might be wrong. She didn't want to pry, but if she wanted to talk about it; Lana would be glad to listen either way. |
