She didn't look too much older than herself. "What year are you in?" "As you should be," Sophie beamed. "I'm a second year, so I was just where you are last year. My advice? Take the map Professor Elwood - oh, that's our Head of House, the Divination professor - take the map she'll give you and keep it with you, but use it only when you need it. It's much more fun to explore the school on your own and I found it was easier to remember where things were when I just found my way around. I wouldn't recommend doing that on the way to a class, of course, 'cause you don't want to be late, but if you've got some time to kill? Explore everywhere. This place is the coolest."
Maybe this kid wasn't going to be much of an adventurer, but Sophie was and had a blast last term exploring every nook and cranny for the first time. Hopefully Hope would show some interest in that, too, or just take her word for it. Text Cut: Mo Quote:

"Hey, bully baby. Make sure you get Hope settled in her new dorm later, ok?" Sophie was a one woman welcoming committee.
Sophie gave Mo a gentle, playful punch to the gut in greeting upon his ruffling of her hair and gave him a sly grin. She had to make up for months of time in which she didn't get to see him at all, didn't she? She planned on antagonizing him as much as possible for the first week or so to even it out. It was her unspoken little sister duty she had put upon herself. "Quit messing up my hairrrr," she protested, but failed to sound serious as she smoothed it down. She didn't like that he always messed up her hair, of course, but she sure enjoyed the attention and didn't mind his way of greeting. She knew it was their way to bond, and she liked feeling like she had a big brother. An annoying big brother sometimes, perhaps, but Mo was a good pretend one all the same.
"You got it. She seems really cool. Hope we get more good first years like her soon. Keep up the good work on recruiting, by the way." Mo was unsurprisingly superb at getting people interested in Quidditch and Sophie couldn't help but take some mental notes in case she got to follow in his footsteps some day. That'd be fuuuun, she thought. Text Cut: Cat Quote:

She nibbled from her own cookie and grinned at Soph, "After the first term waiting for food, I wised up pretty quickly."
She glanced at the girl who Sophie seemed to have taken under her wing, and felt a little bit of pride. Cat had definitely taken Sophie under her wing last year, and now she was returning that to someone else. That was the sweetest thing! She wiggled her fingers at the first year and offered more cookies for that side of the table.
"Nah, don't kid yourself. I'll always be your little firstie." Probably true. "I do feel like a seasoned veteran, though. It's kinda weird - I feel like I've been here for years and years. Not just one. But sometimes I also feel like I'm your age, so that probably has something to do with it." Sophie had clung to upperclassmen all last term - she was very unimpressed with the people in her year - but she had met loads of cool first years and that new second year, Bart, already this term, so she had high hopes to add some variety to her friend groups.
Though she was pretty sure the older kids like Cat and Mo would always be her favorites. Still, they wouldn't be there with her forever.
Shoving the other half of the cookie in her mouth and staring down at the other two in her hands, Sophie zoned out upon realizing she only had one more start-of-term feast with Cat and Mo after this and dwelled on that far too much. Ouch. Ouch ouch ouch.
