Brad grinned. "You are most welcome." Her thanks wasn't that enthusiastic, but that wasn't going to stop him. Yes, hope, because that would get them far. Emily offered him an amused smile. Perhaps she shouldn't have said that, it seemed to have made him uncomfortable, or at least, made things seem uncomfortable. "I'm sure we'll live," she agreed, attempting to lighten the mood and resurrect the pitiful attempt at conversation. She really didn't do well with strangers.
Her face was hurting, she couldn't hold the smile for much longer... but... that! that is what she wanted! Emily looked past Brad at the platter of pastries, a cinnamon scroll winning her attention. Stretching out an arm, she nabbed one. Now she would be satisfied, "this'll keep me going for the rest of the day I'm sure," she said, holding it securely between her fingers.
