The dance floor was becoming sparser, but those that did remain dancing seemed to be gravitating toward them. On the one hand there was more room to navigate the room, though it seemed they didn't need it. With mere inches between them, her face parallel with his, Emily smiled into Vic's shoulder at his response. He had a knack for this - impressing her with his words. Vic was sharp. Hard to read, not typical, tread lightly... was she deserving of such flattery? Or was he simply telling her what she wanted to hear? ... she couldn't tell.

Her anticipation only grew at Vic's pause, his considerably long pause at that. No? So he would push her buttons, interesting. Emily wouldn't object to it, and she'd be happy to push back when the time came. "You're a very good judge of character, then," she concluded. He was of course, correct, she wasn't unfair. That wasn't to say she was the easiest to please, because she wasn't, and she had high standards... but no, Emily was reasonable for the most part.

Vic swayed them a little more as they danced matching the music's rhythm. He didn't see her smile but he was smiling all the same, the few dancing people around them barely visible in his peripheral vision. He spun Emily around a couple times as the tones picked up the pace for a while, then caught her again.

"I was told I am, yes." A good judge of character that is, it came to him naturally after practicing and being in his job for a while now. It was important, and more important was that he never gave an absolute judgement unless it was attested with a list of evidences. Human behaviors were rarely accompanied with physical evidence, though, and were very variable over time, so he would try and act on his hunch when he was outside the courtroom.

They danced in silence for some more before Vic's eyes landed on someone with a drink standing on the side of this ballroom. He pulled back just a little and smiled down at her, "Wanna go have a drink?" And raid the buffet. He wasn't in a hurry, but that drink made him realize how thirsty he got. Besides, he didn't want to steal her for too long, she had to meet all those new employees and receive congratulatory wishes from old ones.
