Emily returned the wink, but didn't return conversation. There were things she wanted to discuss with him, but now was hardly the time or place and it seemed they were being drawn away to different groups. There would be time for colluding and conspiring later. Oh? He was still here... hovering. Cool, he could suit himself. Emily had been too focused on Recard to notice that he was actually listening in on their conversation. Not that it was particularly private, but it was between them. "I guess they are," she agreed, though not quite in the celebratory mood. Her single objective for the night was to keep sane and just get through it. The looks, the glares, the welcomes and congratulations ad everything in between. It had been beginning to look bleak, until now. Ellis would keep her sane, maybe even motivate her to be sociable. Hearing Wes' voice from behind her did wonders to put her at ease. There! People could stop giving her looks and indirectly blaming her for his departure. He wasn't gone yet, he was here! "Things are, slow but good," she replied coolly, not skipping a beat, "I was wondering when you'd show up." Whether he'd been here for some time or whether he did just turn up, she didn't know, but at least his presence was known.
Of course, now, Roxanne decided to open her mouth...
Emily refrained from commenting, she was not going to behave like a child in front of her colleagues. But she did feel the same way. She would miss Wes, and his leadership... under which she had learnt a great deal.
And then speaking of... Emily exchanged a look with Wes and cocked her head toward a lost looking soul. She recognised him from his application... it was that Stonewall kid. Stepping forward, Emily extended her hand for a shake, "Good evening, you must be Jory Stonewall..." must be? of course he was, she knew that, she knew things. "My name's Emily Browne, your Department Head," she introduced herself, "welcome to the Ministry of Magic." And Merlin... that in itself seemed like a lot of talking. She should stop that. Simplify. "Hey, thanks Roxanne," he put a bit paw hand out and touched her lightly on the shoulder. "Australia's just a floo away, though, if you guys ever need me." And if he ever needed to escape a house full of children and a hormonal wife, he would come work for Emily for free. He still knew all the wards to sneak back into his own office.
"Aron," Wes bro-nodded to his brutha from anotha level. "I love it. It's great to be back." He'd grown up there and wanted his kids to have the same experience, so it was refreshing, really. "Will you keep an eye on," he tilted his head toward Emily, "while I'm gone? And promise not to blow up any more labs?"
Not that Emily needed the extra eye, heh.
"Eh, I've been around," was all Wes had to say about his whereabouts. Here in body but not mind, clearly.
Ah, there was one of their new recruits now! He offered the lad a handshake too. "And I'm your outgoing Department Head, Wes Ferguson. No pressure or anything, but you're about to join the best damn department in this entire Ministry." Quote:

How in the world was he to recognise his Head? Best make his presence known, right? Jory cleared his throat. "Good evening,'' he said in general. Good! He sounded composed. Just needed to keep that up.
Okay it was time for Simon to feel a little awkward in his surroundings. Especially as Wes seemed to completely miss his presence in the exchange, not to mention Emily had other people to talk to. Maybe he should let those supposed to be greeting to their duty. Surely he'd see his own boss plenty of times once the ministry actually opened back up for real work. "Best of luck to you, Wes," he said, taking the hint before turning to Emily to say something. However the scene was changed to introductions to a new employee.
A young new employee...possible YATI. "Good evening," he greeted out of being polite rather then just leave. "Simon Bennett...auror. But you'll have to excuse me." Because he was going to leave the ingoing and outgoing MLE heads to do their greeting. "Wes...Emily..." each got a nod." And on that note, Simon took his leave and headed towards the main seating area.
