Guilt, fear, and....hopelessness. They were familiar friends when considering and remembering that one day they had spent together. Sighing, Syd looked at Jasper. "I don't WANT you to say anything Jasper. But this whole you've failed me thing is ridiculous." She had intended to say something but stopped herself. She looked down at the floor for a moment.

"We went on a date that was amazing. The first time in weeks I had had a decent conversation with anyone and I had thoroughly enjoyed myself." Her voice was quiet and her tone sad. She laughed without mirth. "The next day when I tried to contact you..nothing. I sent my owl to your address no less then 20 times with 20 letters with no reply. When I went to your house the place was closed up and no one was home."

She trailed off. "I thought you were dead."
And, he sort of had been. Or at least had a close enough brush with it that it was understood that he was not to tempt fate in that manner again. The thought surfaced and he simmered it down as he caught her gaze, Ambers to Celadons. But then he squeezed his eyes shut hearing her go on about the bliss of that fadic and serendipitous date. When he opened them again, familiar question.

"Why?" Why had she spent all of that time, exerted that much energy, and even now let it effect her as it did? Had she been no more able to separate their moments, short and old though they were, from her mind than he had? How could he have let her go? He still wrestled with that thought in his mind. And it stung like a new wound to hear her seem saddened by it.

He reached his hand out for hers.
