Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling gifted the Marcliffe at Pitfodels near Aberdeen recently with a model of Dobby the house-elf, used in the film series, as a thank-you present. Rowling stayed at the hotel for several months to be by her ailing father-in-law's side, and was said to be so impressed with the staff that she gave the hotel a present - a model of Dobby, seen below, along with a personalised
letter.
Quote:
Hotel owner Stewart Spence said Dobby arrived one day "out of the blue". A letter from Rowling
explained she wanted to give the character a new home.
Mr Spence described the author as "very private and unassuming."
The hotel will apparently
close next November, but the Dobby statue will come with Spence to the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen, where he is a board member.
We will update when a larger shot of the letter, and its contents, is revealed.
