Laura took out her wand and started to practice the wand movement, she knew it was important that she knew that wand movement before she said the spell because otherwise she would look kind of stupid when the spell didn't work and she didn't want that to happen, not now she was a sixth year.

Laura continued to practice the wand movement. She wanted to make sure that she knew the wand movement perfectly before continuing with the task at hand.
