Feeling slightly better about this, Alec took hold of the ginger root before glancing over at the instructions again. Grated ginger root, yeah? And over his cauldron? That meant... he needed his grater, which he needed to clean. A quick Scourgify later, and the boy had his ginger root in one hand and the grater in the other, both of which were held over his cauldron. He took a deep breath and started grating the ginger root, letting the parts of ginger fall into his cauldron.
Once that was done, he glanced at the watch on his wrist. Five minutes, he had to leave this for. And those five minutes started now! While the potion was left to simmer, he might as well start on the next part, yeah? Which included cutting up seventeen of that weird mushroom into thin slices. SEVENTEEN. And THIN slices! How was he going to achieve that in the space of five minutes?!
Panicking slightly, the boy looked back at his watch. Well, that was ten, nearly fifteen, precious seconds gone from his five minutes. Deciding not to waste any more time, Alec cleaned his knife once more before starting on the slicing process. He couldn't help but glance down at his watch every now and then, just to see how much time had passed. It looked like he was cutting it thin -- geddit? -- which only made the Hufflepuff feel even MORE nervous about this whole process. And to think he was nervous about cracking an egg open.
... Cracking that egg was HARD.
When he was done with the slicing, he glanced down at his watch again. Okay, he had gone a couple of seconds over, that was completely fine, right? Yeah? ... Lafay wasn't here to tell him. He shrugged before adding the cut up mushrooms into his cauldron.
Now. He just had ONE MORE STEP LEFT. That weird spell. Alec grabbed his wand and held it up over his cauldron. "Sanum!" he cried, moving his wand in a fast, strinking oblique motion. There. He was ALL DONE. He let out a sigh of relief before grinning down at his potion. He had no idea whether this was good enough or not but... he was going to go with it. He turned off the heat, letting the potion cool.
... And... what was it that Lafay had said they were meant to do? Vial and label? He grabbed a vial and, after giving it a quick clean with Scourgify, poured some of the potion into it. The stopped was put on the vial and he held onto it. He then scribbled down a quick label for his vial because... Lafay would need to know that it was his. Plus she had said this, hadn't she?
