Perhaps taking such a common route of travel was unadvisable being that other humans took a similar path of travel. But he had found, well, um, you see, staying frozen in the midst of the chaos of two people walking around him comforting. In this, he could be like a fly on the wall. If he was frozen, no one could touch him. Also, his crippling anxiety prevented him from taking another step.

........also, being frozen, he didn't notice the Odessa eyes being sent his way.
