This was such a familiar scene for Alana. Maria’s head rested in her lap, like Landon’s usually did when he was stressed and in need of comfort.

The girl had been reluctant at first, standing by Alana’s bedroom door – with tears in her really red eyes. “You are my daughter too, Maria,” Alana had said and pulled Maria into her embrace – leading her to lay down and rest.

Alana felt sad, not only for his son but for the girl. She didn’t deserve this much pain, neither did Landon.
