She gave a sad smile the reality of it was she might end up busier than him with quidditch, school work, prefect duties, and NEWTs. She hoped not and she would make time for him there was no way she wouldn’t, but in reality she knew he was right that the priorities had to come first. “Alright I’ll get ahold of you as soon as I can. I promise.” She felt herself fidgeting a lot from her emotions. This was just not happening in her head. She was dreaming and he was coming with her, right? She had all summer to prepare for this so why was she not ready still. She had even talked to the healers in her session about the separation. She glanced toward the train again.
“I’ll have mine right here.” She showed him the mirror in the outside pocket of her bag. B] “That way I can hear if you ever need me.”[/b] She didn’t care what time a day it was. Looking up at him she tried to give her best smile. “Alright.. I’ll try…. You have a great first year at Uni and no finding anyone new.” She said this in a joking tone or as joking of a tone as her shaky voice would allow, but a knot went tighter in her stomach as she thought about the possibility. She leaned up kissing him again. Her blue eyes went to the packages as he said he had something else.
Smiling as he pulled out her comfort foods and her muggle favorites. “Ethan you didn’t have to get me anything more, but thank you.” She watched as he pulled out something else and her eyes lit up as she saw the books. “Oh hun. those are wonderful. You are amazing you know that.” She opened her bag as he placed them in. Closing up the bag she knew it was time. She couldn’t force anymore moments. Biting her lip for a few moments she took a deep breath and got up gathering all her things. Merlin she had so much stuff. She turned facing him one last time, she wasn’t going to say goodbye no.. The last time she said that to someone and got on this train.. Nope that wasn’t something that was going to say again. “I love you and I will talk to you some.. Tell your parents thank you again and don’t forget to give Gretchen and Elise their nightly treats that they love so much.” She knew they were his animals, but she liked spoiling them. She leaned in for one last hug and a quick kiss. “I.. I guess it’s time. I’ll talk to you soon.” She left her eyes on him for a few moments before turning and heading into the train.
Ethan took his eyes off of Minerva for a moment, watching as students clambered to get on the train. He had to face the reality that it was time for her to go.. and he would have to head back home before going to Uni for the rest of term. His eyes wandered back to hers as she spoke and he gave her a small smile.
"You can.. you're really strong, you are.." He knew a lot of that was forced.. she
had to be strong given some of her circumstances. But that didn't make her strength of character any less true. She could handle whatever came her way and he would be there to support her, even if he couldn't be physically.
He nodded as she showed him her mirror and he secretly hoped it would be sooner rather than later, but he didn't say that not wanting to add any pressure. He mirrored her smile and joking tone, saying,
"I will.. and that goes for you too." He didn't even want to entertain the thought that she'd grow close to someone else in his absence and he pushed that thought far out of his mind as he leaned in to kiss her.
Ethan smiled a bit wider as he noted how much she liked his parting gifts and he put them in her bag as she opened it.
"I just thought it would be something you'd enjoy.. if you get lonely on the train, open up the book of sonnets and think of me. If you even have time, that is.." He winked at her, knowing that she would most likely be really busy and he hoped that would keep any sadness at bay.
He watched her get up and just sat there, looking at her for a minute before he took a deep breath and got up as well. They really were out of time now.. He stood, just watching her as he gathered up her things, and listened as she spoke.
"I will," he nodded.
"And I love you too.." He returned her hug, letting his arms linger around her for a moment, then kissed her one last time.
"Have a great term.. See you soon.. and talk to you sooner.." Because it didn't really have to be goodbye.. that felt too final. He lifted his fingers in a casual wave and watched her board the train, standing there for a few minutes before turning and heading out of the station.
