He wasn't entirely sure he trusted Erik since he had refused his bro!hug in the Tower Patch, so not telling that man everything was SORT OF alright in his book. "What you did was also very admirable in its own right."
Small pause here while he gathered his thoughts and attempted to stop his palms from sweating. He could SEEEEEEEEEE the sparkle of tears still there in the girl's eyes. "While I understand you don't feel as though you are in the correct house," he began. Yes, he had figured that one out on his own - hate of yellow aside. "You showed true loyalty to Miss Cambridge, a very Hufflepuff trait."
And please don't change your mind about him because he pointed that out, okay?
DLKJFDSLSDJ AND THERE WERE TEARS COMING BACK! QUICK! ANSWER HER OTHER QUESTION!
"Not nearly as glamorous as jewels, I was more than happy to donate my rock collection to the cause," he grinned.
Creepy, Airey, creepy. Why are you smiling??
Lottie kept her eyes on him as he spoke. They way he'd started that sentence made her believe that what she was about to listen was something that her ears would enjoy. So she nodded. And then the biggest smile ever appeared on her face. It was time for tea!
Admirable. N'awww, that was some kind of awesome. Especially coming from Airey. "Thank you, Professor." Because it was totally a compliment.
Tea time! But she wiped whatever was left of her tears away before drinking more raspberry tea. And then it happened. How did he--?? It was really that obvious, wasn't it? Like, sure, some of her classmates knew, her housemates certainly did know, but Professors? Not really, no. So she was definitely surprised to hear this. But she didn't interrupt him, she was actually curious about what else he could add to make this the worse day ever.
Oh.
Loyalty. Right. "She's my best friend." It was the thing you did. It didn't relate to loyalty. She was in denial, of course. But, she felt the need to finish her tea and stoop up, she was going to tell him something, something she's never said before, out in the open, at least, and walked to his science fiction models. Don't worry, we're not touching, we're just looking. Or pretending to. "You know, loyalty runs in all the Houses, though they may differ from one to another in a certain way," this is true, there were all sorts of loyalty. It could be towards books, facts, or justice, but it was there. "My family...," she kept on looking at the display case, "...they all belonged in Slytherin." FACT. "The colors, the House, it was all I knew while growing up," it had been all she wanted, this is why Airey could understand, "All I wanted was to belong in the House of Green and Silver...," she smiled, looking away from the case and up to...hey, was that a drawing made by Oakey? "...I guess we know how that turned out." Well, hellooooo, yellooow??? "No one really cares about this but me, actually." They were entirely fine with Lottie being a Hufflepuff, that was even more upsetting to her. "It is something really hard to accept, but we don't get to know why we don't get the things we want, do we?" THIS she said while looking at him, the man who'd Silencio'd Oakey according to that drawing. "Doesn't matter how bad we want it, sometimes it doesn't happen." She was starting to feel like she needed ice cream again. "Being loyal is a very human trait." Well, she was back to her chair now, because she'd concluded her little speech, sort of, "It does not belong to Hufflepuffs alone." What she was saying was: Please do not try to make this any better by bringing Hufflepuff, it won't work. And she WILL cry, so stop it.
So, now that she was sitting and had had a spoon of ice cream, she smiled sweetly at him. "Thank you, though." It was truly very nice of him. Very un-Gryffindor like. "The Sorting Hat makes mistakes from time to time." Loyalty was also mentioned to Harry Potter, a Gryffindor. Point made.
MERLIN!
This next topic made her former smile return. The rocks. Sure, not as glamorous as jewels, but they serve their purpose, so..it was all good. "I knew it had been you." Because, who else, right? |
