general. Maybe Dylan sometimes did, but as a general statement the first part was true. The second sentence was in two parts, since he believed in listening to prefects, but also that his own best interests weren't an 'instead' so much as a reason for listening to them in the first place. Contradictory then.
He didn't press, but he was participating, see? See professors? He was.
