West tried to pay attention to it and seem like it was the most amazing conversation ever, but he really was just thinking about how he probably looked like a complete knob standing here holding a door to an old shed when she didn't want to go inside with him and was probably just saying stuff to avoid saying stuff.
Which was classic Alice, but he still hadn't expected the bugs.
"I don't know what kind. Just fireflies. They fly. And glow. And I just thought.... they looked nice, and then after I could let them all go." After.
Blink. Past curfew?
"Wasn't going to try." West muttered. This sucked. This was a dumb idea. He might've continued thinking in the same vein as this but Alice suddenly tugged him inside. Actually inside. Finally! Caught by surprise he didn't let go of the door and so he pulled it shut behind him as she started taking a closer look at the cut outs.
................ were they invoked...? Um, yeah? Fat lot of good they were doing though. West decided to say other things instead.
"Doesn't need to be a full day. Any day with some Alice in it is better than a day without, even if its just standing outside of a broomshed while she says stuff about bioluminescent bugs."
He paused and rallied. "You could sit down?"
"They're not Otetrinae for sure, those don't even produce light. Which is weird because they're still considered fireflies."
Alice.. needed to stop going on about bugs. Like now.
"They do look nice though. I can help you let them go. After. If you want."
Just some stuff.
"Bioluminescence is interesting, though. I would stand outside a broomshed and listen to you tell me weird facts about random invertebrates." Like click beetles, those were excellent topics to diffuse whatever this was.
"That would make any day better. Or if you said stuff about vertebrates instead, that would be okay too. What's that thing?" She tugged him over closer to the gramophone, still reluctant to let his hand go.
"I could." But right now, Alice was poking at funny Muggle devices, so she wouldn't.
Maybe later.
