Forrest was just GLAD to hear her scream, and he tried his best to spread as much mud as possible over her. His hands were on her face--not clawing or anything, but simply covering her skin with mud as his other hand tried to hug her tightly to cover her clothes in mud too. And she probably had no luck pulling his hair because it should be pretty slippery because of the mud SHE had caused.

Clutching on her neck as strongly as he could, he just held onto her as if his life depended on it before he lost his balance towards the swamp.

If he fell, he was taking her down with him.
