SPOILER!!: Eliza
She grinned and looked up from her cup, "Good! You're very welcome! Yeah that tea in class was awful, but maybe we can bring some of mine in." But that made her think, "Oh, but I'll need enough to share. Could we just cast gemino on a bag of it so that everyone could have some?"She wouldn't want to leave anyone out and make them drink that other tea. "Espresso? I don't think I'd like that much. I've tried coffee before but it' too bitter for me.
She skewed her face as she tried to remember. "Maybe I have used it before...I don't remember. Anyway, it's pretty handy! I'll have to try it out soon." She made a mental note of it. And wait...how did...he cast water without me hearing? Did he...?! She whipped her head back towards Ethan and asked, "Did you just a cast a non-verbal spell?" She knew he must've, but she didn't want to assume if he hadn't.
She teased him further when he seemed like he didn't get her joke."Yeah, you know," she said, nudging him in the shoulder, "Lump of coal? Like what parents or Santa give their kids for Christmas if they've been bad that year?" But maybe he hadn't heard some of the muggle stories she had while she was growing up. She listened as he went on about his reading though and didn't try to explain it any further. Unless he asked, then she would of course.
Nodding slowly at what he was saying about Divination in general, Eliza found herself agreeing. "That makes sense...I do think I try to make it all match up a little too literally sometimes. Thanks, I think that will help me do all of this a little better." She would try to keep that in mind. Then again, it did sort of make everything even that more wishy washy and easy to mold into whatever purpose you wanted it to serve, but she'd get it eventually.
Ethan was so smart sometimes. She hadn't thought of herself as super shy either, but there were times when she struggled socially. "Wow...yeah. You're so good at this! I suppose...yeah there are times when I can't seem to think of what to say, so maybe that's what it means. I should...be more confident in those situations, I think." She looked down and slowly peeked out at him. "Times like...um, talking to cute...people. Andquidditchtoo." She blinked away from him and wondered how he would take that, him being her best friend at Hogwarts and a lot like a brother in a lot of ways.
The last part, about good things coming and dreams coming true, was making more sense the more that Ethan talked about it. "Oh, that's true. I didn't think about it being a minor thing." She paused and tried to word what she'd thought about. "Well it was sort of mostly about if I would do well in Quidditch or if I'd get to play...and also if I'd do well with friendships this year at school...and I guess I was also sort of curious about, um, if I'd start being friends with any boys...in the future..." She didn't know why it was sort of embarrassing to talk about, but she felt comfortable with Ethan and if she couldn't tell him about these things, she didn't know how she expected to talk to anyone else about them. Though Min had become a very good friend to her this year as well.
About his reading now, she agreed again, no surprises there. "Oh that makes sense that a candle would be about faith, huh? I think that makes sense. I have faith in you and your new Quidditch position!" So maybe it was sort of about her too, and his friends, and himself...and everyone.
She scoffed slightly at the next description. "Psychic powers? Ethan, is that why you understand this so well?" She winked and chuckled about it. "Um, hmm...maybe you have...an inkling to something in your life and you understand it more than you think you do? Trying to think non-literally here," she said with a small smile.
She considered this last one for a moment. "Hmmmm...a disagreement? I hope it doesn't really happen, but maybe it could be with a student about house points? You are a prefect now, so maybe you'll have to do some disciplining soon?" That was a tough one.
She wrote in her journal her final thoughts about the reading.
Once she was done she set her cup and saucer aside and turned back to Ethan. "So how has being a prefect been going for you so far?" She felt like they hadn't talked in forever.
Ethan thought over Eliza’s words about the duplicating spell and shook his head.
“No.. I don’t think so... Geminio doesn’t really work on food like that. Similar to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration..” That would make things easier though, yeah? But unfortunately he was stuck with the bitter tea for class unless someone else brought something better in. Hopefully they were done with the tea leaf readings for this term. After the one he did tonight, that is.
He chuckled a bit as she asked him about his nonverbal spell. It was a new thing for him and he was still pretty excited about it.
”I did..” he started, smiling modestly.
“I actually just learned this one and Scourgify to do nonverbally.. They’re not perfect yet, but they’re getting there. I think I’m going to work on Incendio next.” He was constantly using those three for potion work so he figured he did those ones best. Ethan smiled to himself, a bit impressed that he could do a couple nonverbal spells and that Eliza seemed a little impressed as well.
Ethan furrowed his brow a bit as she tried to explain about the lump of coal. That was sort of an odd tradition, wasn’t it? Giving coal to naughty children..
“Hmm, maybe that’s a regional thing? I hadn’t heard that..” He mulled it over a bit more.. seemed like some extreme form of conditioning.. did parents really do that? He was lost in his thoughts a bit when Eliza’s words about her own reading and his interpretation of it brought him back to the present.
“Oh, I don’t know how good I am at it..” Though he would admit that Divination was one of his favorite subjects..
”Sometimes there’s just more than one way to look at things and someone else can offer another interpretation,” he added with a shrug. Maybe it was a good thing to do some of these readings with a friend rather than by yourself.. they might catch something you hadn’t thought of.
He tilted his head slightly, watching her carefully as she continued. Cute people, hmm? He supposed she meant boys..
"Anyone particular in mind?" he asked lightly. He wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a few boys interested in her.. she was a pretty girl and a lot of fun.. but he felt an almost brotherly need to make sure any boy interested in her was good enough for
his Eliza. "Well, your readings point to good things," he said with a smile.
"I'd say that's encouraging for the things on your mind.." And it better be because Merlin help any boy who hurt her.. but she was thinking about Quidditch too.. good.
"I see you playing in a game soon.." he nodded.
"You're really good, you know.." Especially for someone who
just started playing.
He shrugged a little and smiled modestly as the talk of Quidditch turned to him.
"I don't know.. maybe I need to overcome my own insecurity about my new position.. It's just a bit intimidating to have the team depend on you when you don't feel qualified enough to do it in the first place." He much preferred to play as Chaser.. that's the position he learned with and felt the most comfortable.. but he guessed he could grow into his new position with enough practice and time.. but would he get enough before the next game?
He chuckled at the remark about psychic powers.
"That must be it.. maybe I'll go see Elwood later about developing my Inner Eye," he said with a wink. He enjoyed Divination, funnily enough. It didn't seem like such a Ravenclaw-ish subject, but he still felt there was something to it even if it wasn't always logical. Some things just couldn't be explained. Then he shrugged as she gave an explanation to his third symbol.
"It could be that.. but I was more focusing on Quidditch when I was doing the reading, so I'm thinking it might have to do with something there.." Though what, he did not know.. but he hoped it would be minor because he did not love conflict.
"Being a prefect has been pretty cool so far," he said after a brief moment's thought.
"It's a lot of extra work, but I kind of like being a leader for Ravenclaw, you know?" Funny, he never would have thought he would.. but he did. He liked the responsibility and feeling of being somewhat in charge.
"So, what have you been up to? I feel like I haven't seen you in a while.. other than in class.." Of course that could be due to him being so busy this term, but maybe she was up to something exciting..
