She watched as instead of being a normal person and dropping his coins in and then moving on, Axe summoned a chair to the donation station. Was he serious. Was he seriously going to sit there right now? NEXT to HER, like he BELONGED HERE?!?!!
"Why do you care about the school?" she continued, though more quietly and not so snidely this time. She could pretend play nice. "You don't work here any more. You don't have any family here," that she was aware of. And if there were any little troublemakers running around her school related to Axe Lawson, she was sure they would have made her aware of their existence by now.
Much in the same way he was reminding her of his existence... by trying to get under her skin. Yeah, she heard those coins. "Frankly, I'm surprised you have any money left to donate," Annie continued, though under the guise of being pleasant and cheerful. She even put on a sweet smile as she delivered her next quip. "I thought that ex-wife of yours left you broke and broken-hearted."
She reached over to pat pat his leg juuuust close enough to the supposed coins in his pocket. Just comforting you, dear old friend. Mwah. Oh she was always so quick with a joke especially when she knew that he was right. "Oh Annie. There's plenty of things I've learned since we last met." He gave her a tiny eyebrow waggle. "Unfortunately you won't get to see it." Or experience it. Your loss Bun Bunz.
The look on her face as he made himself at home right beside her was priceless and he wished he had brought a camera with him. Hadn't she realised yet that he was here to give her a hard time about her misfortunes.
Axe gave her another raised eyebrow. "Really Anastasia. Your school is in dire need for cash, but you question my motives." He lent back in the chair and placed his hands behind his head. He would have placed his feet on the table if it wasn't already taken up by the huge chest. "Does it really matter where the money comes from and why?"
And she just had to bring up the ex-wife didn't she? That was okay, it was a long time ago and Marcus was definitely over Iliana. He tipped his head back and laughed. "You thought wrong my dear. Since the kid wasn't mine, she's now Masterton's problem." So he was free to spend his money how he liked. As for being broken-hearted, well that lasted for about five minutes. Only one woman had truly broken his heart and she was sitting beside him and it's not something he was ever going to let happen again.
Grin still in place, Lawson placed his hand over hers and removed it from his leg. "And I thought you would learnt how to manage money by now."
Apparently not!
