His morning ritual.. he wasn't sure he could function without his daily caffeine. He shrugged a little. "I wouldn't mind if the tea they had gotten for class was halfway decent. That was the worst cup of tea I had ever had.. so I'm really grateful you brought some of your own." He grinned at her, hoping there were no leaves stuck in his teeth or anything.

Pulling his textbook from his bag, he began flipping through to the appropriate section then looked up at the question. "Oh, that heating charm? No.. it's a relatively simple spell.. You haven't learned it yet?" He was a bit surprised, hadn't they used it in class previously? But maybe not.. "You just run your wand around the rim and the incantation is Chaudensis.. you should try it on your next reading." Useful spell, that one was..

He glanced up at Eliza as she looked into his cup and confirmed his findings. Good.. he wasn't completely crazy and making things up. Heh.. one-horned goat.. he chuckled a little. "Lump of coal?" he glanced back into his cup, not getting the reference, and shrugged. "Yeah, I suppose it could be that too.. I guess I'll just go with my initial thought then if it could be any of them.. a closed fist." He wondered what that would mean and if he would like the meaning better than any of the others..

He looked up at her, then peered into her cup as the younger Claw began assessing her leaves. Oh, it did look like a lily, he thought with a smile. Maybe a stargazer.. Anyway.. "Yeah.. I can definitely see all those," he said with a nod, then he tilted his head slightly as he thought over her words about Tessomancy in general. "Well.." he began after a moment's thought. "I think they can be true.. but maybe not always in the way that we're looking for. Like, perhaps it's not as literal as we think and we have to dig deeper to find its meaning and how it really relates to our life or path.." Of course, that was just his opinion on Divination in general.. who knew if he was right or way off the mark?

Then he leaned back a little, listening thoughtfully as Eliza presented her findings and interpretations. "Good luck in the future is always a good thing, yeah?" He grinned a little then continued listening. Getting over being shy..? Hmm.. he hadn't really thought of Eliza as a shy person, but maybe it was situational. He tilted his head and gave her a curious look as she seemed to be looking at him strangely. Maybe she was wondering what he thought of her symbol? "So, maybe it doesn't exactly mean that your overall personality is shy because that's never the impression that I got of you," he started with a small grin. "It could mean more about a situation you are reluctant to be in or do something in.. and that you need to work to overcome that.. does that seem at all relevant?" He looked at her questioningly before she continued with her third symbol.

The flower meant good things.. He grinned, then chuckled a little at her theory of its meaning. "It's always a good thing to hang out with a friend, yeah?" And the good mood was great.. so it seemed pretty spot on. "Maybe more good things to come today, too.." he added with a raised brow. The entire day would be considered the present, right? And dreams to come true.. He shrugged a little. "The day's not over.. maybe something you've been thinking about will come to fruition.. even if it's something minor.. What had you been meditating on when you drank your tea, if you don't mind me asking?"

Okay.. so now it was his turn. "Alright, my first symbol near the rim which would be the present reading, I thought looked like a candle." He turned to that symbol in the book and his green eyes skimmed the passage. "It says that a lit candle represents faith and motivation." He thought for a moment, then shrugged. "I had been thinking about Quidditch so maybe that is related to faith in my new position and a motivation for the season to start?" He chuckled a little bit. Obviously Elise had some sort of faith in him or else she wouldn't have had him replace Dustin.

"So, I think we decided this one here in the middle was a unicorn," he said with a chuckle and he flipped to that page, reading the meaning. "Apparently I have psychic powers," he finally said, chuckling a bit more. "Not really sure what that has to do with Quidditch or what might happen in two weeks.. What do you think?" Christmas was in two weeks, perhaps he would successfully predict what kind of gift he would get and maybe it would relate to an upcoming game.. he didn't know. Maybe that one would remain to present itself in its own time.

"Next, I settled on a fist as a symbol.." It was what he thought of first and he was fairly certain first impressions counted here. "The book says a closed hand relates to an argument or disagreement," he said with the hint of a frown. So how would that relate to Quidditch in the future? Hopefully not a disagreement with one of his teammates.. he hated arguments.. Maybe there would be some sort of dispute over the cup? "So.. what do you think?" he asked Eliza, looking up, just wondering for a general impression about his entire reading. It was always good to get more than one view on these sorts of things, he thought.

Rim: Candle - faith and motivation - Present Reading
Middle: Unicorn - suggests psychic powers - Near Future Reading
Base: Fist - argument or disagreement - Future Reading

She grinned and looked up from her cup, "Good! You're very welcome! Yeah that tea in class was awful, but maybe we can bring some of mine in." But that made her think, "Oh, but I'll need enough to share. Could we just cast gemino on a bag of it so that everyone could have some?" She wouldn't want to leave anyone out and make them drink that other tea. "Espresso? I don't think I'd like that much. I've tried coffee before but it' too bitter for me.

She skewed her face as she tried to remember. "Maybe I have used it before...I don't remember. Anyway, it's pretty handy! I'll have to try it out soon." She made a mental note of it. And wait...how did...he cast water without me hearing? Did he...?! She whipped her head back towards Ethan and asked, "Did you just a cast a non-verbal spell?" She knew he must've, but she didn't want to assume if he hadn't.

She teased him further when he seemed like he didn't get her joke. "Yeah, you know," she said, nudging him in the shoulder, "Lump of coal? Like what parents or Santa give their kids for Christmas if they've been bad that year?" But maybe he hadn't heard some of the muggle stories she had while she was growing up. She listened as he went on about his reading though and didn't try to explain it any further. Unless he asked, then she would of course.

Nodding slowly at what he was saying about Divination in general, Eliza found herself agreeing. "That makes sense...I do think I try to make it all match up a little too literally sometimes. Thanks, I think that will help me do all of this a little better." She would try to keep that in mind. Then again, it did sort of make everything even that more wishy washy and easy to mold into whatever purpose you wanted it to serve, but she'd get it eventually.

Ethan was so smart sometimes. She hadn't thought of herself as super shy either, but there were times when she struggled socially. "Wow...yeah. You're so good at this! I suppose...yeah there are times when I can't seem to think of what to say, so maybe that's what it means. I should...be more confident in those situations, I think." She looked down and slowly peeked out at him. "Times like...um, talking to cute...people. Andquidditchtoo." She blinked away from him and wondered how he would take that, him being her best friend at Hogwarts and a lot like a brother in a lot of ways.

The last part, about good things coming and dreams coming true, was making more sense the more that Ethan talked about it. "Oh, that's true. I didn't think about it being a minor thing." She paused and tried to word what she'd thought about. "Well it was sort of mostly about if I would do well in Quidditch or if I'd get to play...and also if I'd do well with friendships this year at school...and I guess I was also sort of curious about, um, if I'd start being friends with any boys...in the future..." She didn't know why it was sort of embarrassing to talk about, but she felt comfortable with Ethan and if she couldn't tell him about these things, she didn't know how she expected to talk to anyone else about them. Though Min had become a very good friend to her this year as well.

About his reading now, she agreed again, no surprises there. "Oh that makes sense that a candle would be about faith, huh? I think that makes sense. I have faith in you and your new Quidditch position!" So maybe it was sort of about her too, and his friends, and himself...and everyone.

She scoffed slightly at the next description. "Psychic powers? Ethan, is that why you understand this so well?" She winked and chuckled about it. "Um, hmm...maybe you have...an inkling to something in your life and you understand it more than you think you do? Trying to think non-literally here," she said with a small smile.

She considered this last one for a moment. "Hmmmm...a disagreement? I hope it doesn't really happen, but maybe it could be with a student about house points? You are a prefect now, so maybe you'll have to do some disciplining soon?" That was a tough one.

She wrote in her journal her final thoughts about the reading.

SPOILER!!: Notes

Eliza Dawnsel
Ravenclaw Third Year
Divination - Homework One

Afternoon Reading:
Rim: Flower - good things are happening. Joy, success, happiness and dreams will come true. - Present Reading
Middle: Rabbit - needing to get over being shy and needing to take care of yourself - Near Future Reading
Base: Bird - good luck or good news coming in the future - Future Reading

The flower could relate to my life in the present because while I’m doing this reading, I’m in a really good mood. I’m feeling happy about enjoying my tea and about spending time with my friend, Ethan. So that part is spot on. The rabbit could apply to my life in the future because I do get shy sometimes about some things - namely talking to certain new people. I could work on being less shy and being more confident around certain people and in Quidditch too. I’m still so surprised I made the team, even as a reserve, so maybe the rabbit is telling me to feel more confident about that. And lastly the bird meaning there will be good luck in my future, could mean that I will be good at Quidditch. Maybe I will help score a goal or will contribute to the team somehow. Or it could mean I will finally be more self assured when trying to talk to new people, which would be an example of me fulfilling the rabbit part of the reading.

Once she was done she set her cup and saucer aside and turned back to Ethan. "So how has being a prefect been going for you so far?" She felt like they hadn't talked in forever.
