A knock interrupted his singing. Putting down the sock he was darning, he made his way to the door. Whoever it was kept knocking. And knocking. Not shiny? Eh? This made him pause. But when the unidentified student said it was half an emergency, he quickened his pace and arrived at the door.

As he opened the door, he saw--- Alexa. The girl he'd found in the forest last year. "Wha's goin' on out there?" he said with a touch of urgency in his voice.
