"Then took it a step further and created his own fictional set for his Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the Cirth Runes." but Tolkien isn't really considered modern anymore so... "A lot of modern authors have followed suit since Tolkien found inspiration in the Elder Furthark Runes, and have done the same."
